International Youth Festival to Be Held in Yekaterinburg on September 11–17, 2026

On January 27, the first meeting of the Organizing Committee for the preparation and holding of the International Youth Festival 2026 (IYF-2026) took place in Moscow. By decree of President Vladimir Putin, the large-scale international youth event will be held in Yekaterinburg in September 2026.

“The International Youth Festival will take place this year in Yekaterinburg and will bring together 10,000 young people from 190 countries around the world. A key innovation of the festival will be the sector-based formation of international delegations: the festival will welcome leading representatives of the creative industries, public administration, science and technology, sports, entrepreneurship, media, and the social sector — those who are already shaping the future of their countries and the world as a whole. That is why it is critically important for the festival to serve as a showcase of Russia’s best projects and practices,” said Sergey Kiriyenko, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the International Youth Festival and First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office.

Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko emphasized that hosting IYF-2026 is a major responsibility, given the high standards set by the 2024 festival held in Sirius.

“Since last year, the national project ‘Youth and Children’ has been underway. Its structure includes the federal project ‘Russia in the World’, which focuses on international youth cooperation and aims to promote a positive image of our country abroad. The International Youth Festival is among the initiatives implemented within this national project, and it is proposed that the festival be held from September 11 to 17, 2026,” he noted.

The Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized that the festival’s regional program will take place across 30 regions of Russia. He instructed Rosmolodezh (the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs) and the Directorate of the World Youth Festival to explore the possibility of foreign guests visiting Abkhazia, and called on the heads of Russia’s constituent entities to actively participate in forming regional delegations and event programs.

Dmitry Chernyshenko noted that the festival will bring together 5,000 Russian and 5,000 international participants, including 1,000 children aged 14 to 17. A total of 2,000 volunteers will assist in organizing and delivering the event.

“Drawing inspiration from the successful experience of the 2024 World Youth Festival in Sirius, we are developing the concept of the World Youth City. Not only at the main festival venue, but throughout Yekaterinburg, there will be educational programs, cultural events, concerts, and festivals, creating an immersive atmosphere of creativity, idea exchange, and international cooperation,” said Grigory Gurov, Head of Rosmolodezh.
Dmitry Chernyshenko proposed designating Ural Federal University as the primary accommodation site for participants and volunteers, and the Yekaterinburg-Expo International Exhibition Center as the main venue for the festival’s core program.

“One of the flagship initiatives approved by President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin within the higher education system is the construction of modern student campuses. It is precisely the new campus of Ural Federal University that will host the participants of the International Youth Festival. I am confident that both Russian and international students will highly appreciate the campus’s opportunities and spend their time there productively,” said Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Denis Pasler noted that hosting IYF-2026 in the Sverdlovsk Region confirms the region’s status as a national center for youth development.
