Small Ways to Digital Community Building
featuring Timothi Ellim, Ma Yanling and Ke Weiliang

🗓 Thu 9 Mar 2023, 2000 hrs (GMT +8)
🎧 Live radio chat on this Telegram channel (t.me/channelnewstheatre)

In this Channel NewsTheatre radio chat collaboration with Centre 42’s Small Ways to 42k, join Timothi from The Doodle People as he introduces Cloud House - a multiplayer virtual space for imagining artist projects in the digital realm.

Together with Yanling, Company Manager at Centre 42, and Weiliang, they discuss the possibilities that Cloud House offers for arts practitioners, as well as broader visions of how digital spaces can play a role in community building for audiences alike.

P.S. Tune in via your Telegram desktop app for the best viewing experience as we'll be screen sharing some exclusive sneak peeks of the Cloud House virtual world!

About the speakers:

Timothi Lim (Timothi Ellim) is a Creative Director (Augmented Reality) at The Doodle People where he leads his team to develop AR effects and standalone apps to empower brand awareness, inspire clients, and support AR R&D for their business. As an individual, Timothi is an interactive media developer who seeks to connect generations through the union of physical and digital lifestyles.

Ma Yanling is the Company Manager at Centre 42, a non-profit theatre development space. Since its establishment in 2014, she has steered and produced many of its programmes that supported the creation, documentation and promotion of theatre. When not wearing her arts manager hat, Yanling has her other foot in the performing arts as a contemporary dance performer.

Ke Weiliang (he/they) is curious about how living beings can hold space for one another through asynchronous and/or physically distanced interactions. When he is not busy hustling in the corporate world, they run the Telegram community
Channel NewsTheatre at a leisurely pace.

The inaugural Per°Form Open Academy of Arts and Activations: a porous space bridging solidarities and knowledges in the precarious present.

The independent and international arts company based in Singapore, T:>Works, presents Per°Form Open Academy of Arts and Activations this April. It is the inaugural live gathering of 14 Per°Form Fellows from the Global South – Africa, Arab World, Asia-Pacific, the Caribbean, South America – and its diaspora.

Per°Form is conceptualised and led by T:>Works Artistic Director, Dr. Ong Keng Sen. This fellowship platform began in March 2021 through the format of digital keynotes by Singapore fellows. With Per°Form, T:>Works aims to cut across silos, disciplines, and fields to support contextualised research, situated practices, and translocal knowledge production as shared resources for the future.

Central to the Per°Form Open Academy of Arts and Activations is a marathon format on 15th April stretching from 11am to 1am the next day, where the audience is encouraged to visit for an hour or two, or stay as long as they desire. This marathon format has its precedents in the legacy of T:>Works' The Flying Circus Project (1996 - 2013).

Per°Form Open Academy of Arts and Activations is happening from 13th to 16th April 2023 at 72-13. Admission to the events is free.

People, Places & Things
by Pangdemonium

Following a sold-out season at National Theatre and in London’s West End, this theatrical tour-de-force was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play. Featuring a stunning ensemble cast of 11 led by Sharda Harrison, Duncan Macmillan’s play is a searing exploration of a still-taboo subject, and expertly draws powerful parallels between theatre and therapy, between art and addiction.

Starting off their season with a hard-hitting and mind-bending theatrical experience unlike any other, Pangdemonium’s new production lays bare the cruelty of substance abuse and addiction.

Emma is an actress who loses herself in the characters she plays and also in the cocktail of substances she puts in her body - to the point where she questions her own identity: which version of me is the real me?

Prepare yourselves to experience every shift, turn and change of events together with Emma, and witness how her friends, family members, and fellow addicts morph into figments of fantasy. And as we get swept up in the storm of her psyche, we find ourselves asking: which version of this story is the truth?

Amidst all the chaos and heart-breaking performance, the production also allows for moments of empathy and self-reflection; if all that could happen to Emma, what’s stopping it from happening to us?

Directed by Tracie Pang. Starring Sharda Harrison as Emma. People, Places & Things also features Shona Benson, Rebecca Ashley Dass, Rebekah Sangeetha Dorai, Krissy Jesudason, Keagan Kang, Shane Mardjuki, Victoria Mintey, Adrian Pang, Jamil Schulze, and Tan Guo Lian Sutton.

A Singaporean comedy that sets you thinking!

It’s a gloves off, free for all wrestle-mania between the perpetually irate Chinese, the Ngs and the notoriously frustrating new Indians, the Bhallas. All the pet peeves that they have about each other are on the table as they hilariously duel one another on every misconception and every misgiving.

It’s a forum theatre play about the challenges of integration and we seek a happy ending from you, the audience. Come help us get there and you will go home both entertained and, maybe, a little bit wiser!
