This week we have Digbeth First Friday. For the ones of you who are new to it, its a monthly open art galleries evening, taking part each first Friday of the month. Most galleries open their doors in the evening and Centrala is open until 11 with exhibition, DJ’s and bar. It’s a very chilled out even for anyone who wants to get to know Birmingham art scene, hang out with others and meet new people. Culture Dub Orchestra are a World Roots Dub band based in the Midlands, with influences from all parts of the globe.

With dub firmly at the core; CDO explores a range of cultures, religions, backgrounds and musical styles. A heavy roots drum and bass section (crucial to the true dub sound) is coloured by a variety of instruments and sounds. Guitar and keys deliver the essential reggae off-beat with a large palette of delays, while an array of live percussion from tabla to djembe bring it all together to take your mind on a spiritual nomadic journey. Although at the core CDO are an instrumental band they will often feature guest vocalists from varied musical backgrounds.

Members are all interconnected through previous musical projects which range through reggae, funk, soul, hip hop, ska, rock, salsa and Eastern folk- all contributing to the unique fusion of sounds.

We are teaming up and organising Art workshops for our Ukrainina Youth Group on Thursday 14th and one open to all on Saturday 16th from 11-3pm. Artist Rafal Zar will run drawing and painting session.

Let’s celebrate the Independence Day of Ukraine together!
As the war is still going on, it’s particularly important to remember what Ukrainians are fighting for.
We would like to invite all Brummies on behalf of our Ukrainian friends and invite all
Ukrainians on behalf of Brummies, (especially the CEE Brummies) to join in the celebration.
We have spoken to our Ukrainian friends and from their perspective the Independence Day is about getting together, seeing loved ones and sharing food and drinks.
Let’s recreate this atmosphere! After a celebration at 6pm in the City Centre (Show your support, bring the flag of your country!), we will gather at Centrala from 7pm for food, drinks and fun along with some Ukrainian music.

So, bring food to share (we would love to have a spread of various foods from different cultures!), your hope, encouragement and friendship to celebrate this wonderful day together as one!

Давайте відтворимо цю атмосферу! Після святкування о 18:00 у центрі міста (покажи свою підтримку, принеси прапор своєї країни!), ми зберемося в Centrala з 19:00 щоб смачно перекусити, випити та повеселитися під українську музику.
Тож візьміть із собою страву, щоб поділитися нею (ми хотіли б мати різноманітні страви з різних культур!). Це свято - надії, віри та свободи; наша мета- підбадьорення та дружба. Тож давайте відсвяткуємо цей чудовий день разом!
