In case anyone else wondered what was on their passport or ID card with a bunch of `<<<<<` everywhere, it is called a "Machine Readable Zone"
Which is documented in "[Doc 9303](https://www.icao.int/publications/pages/publication.aspx?docnum=9303)".…

The Tech Industry Doesn’t Understand Consent - Dhole Moments
Thanks to Samantha Cole at 404 Media, we are now aware that Automattic plans to sell user data from Tumblr and WordPress.com (which is the host for my blog) for “AI” products. In respon…

Issues identified at FurSquared 2023
What could have gone better in 2023? A fair amount across registration, vendors, and volunteers!

You might not think it, but scale is a problem Furries are having to deal with. Why might this be happening? How much did FurSquared grow and when at the convention might we staff more and staff less? I go over some neat numbers and metrics in part 2 of FurSquared's 2024 retrospective.

A Critical Issue for Conventions: Size
Convention attendance is going up year over year exponentially. We have to plan for it.

After all that success and growth, what actually went into it all? Drivers License scanning was a big hit for staff, built in refund tools and volunteer time tracking too. Dealers got a much better payment experience and could manage their assistants themselves, and we got a robust background work queue now too.
See Part 3 in FurSquared's 2024 retrospective for all the invention and design that made it succeed while growing 35% year over year.

Technology Updates for FurSquared 2024
A completely new registration interface, volunteer and vendor integrations, and more came in 2024's update!

Not all fruits of 2024's labor came unblemished. There are plenty of things to improve. Vendor processes need a lot more love and so does cash. We need to squeeze out as much from the pre-printing method as possible while by making badge ranger's role easier too.
There are plenty of areas where I could use some help. Are you interested in taking on a challenge? I've got some fun ideas for Volunteers. 😉
Check out all the rough edges in part 4 of FurSquared's 2024 retrospective.

A Reflection of 2024's Registration Technology
Cash processing, vendor sign ups, and plenty more need a fair amount of work. We're quickly maturing our technology.

Hoorah, the last section of the retrospective is here. There are two major products I plan to make for 2025: a vendors application process and an all in one check-in application for on-site use. Oh! A better cash process too. Can't forget that.
I am also researching ways to better handle 2026's projected growth, and I plan some minor improvements for attendees too.
Take a read of part 5 of the FurSquared 2024 retrospective.
