Fabrice Bregier, chief operating officer at Airbus reassures that A380 production line will continue for the next 10 years and confident to get more orders to extend further.
Emirates being the largest customer of A380, having been delivered 100 aircraft wanted assurance from Airbus to keep the production line open for at least next 10 years to make further orders.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Fabrice Bregier said βWe expected to sign a memorandum of understanding with Emirates, who I think were very close to doing that,β and βWe will need a few more weeks. If we finalize it we will be committed to producing this aircraft, I believe, for at least for the next 10 years.β He added βThis is the plan, we probably need to sharpen the pencils a bit.β
Airbus was targeting Emirates, British Airways owner IAG, Japanβs ANA, and Thai Airways to give a final push to A380 at Dubai Airshow which concluded on 16th November 2017, but walked away unsuccessful in securing orders.
Last week Singapore Airlines returned its first every A380 back to its German leasing company Dr Peters Group after only 10 years of use.

At the same time Singapore Airlines which received the first A380 in 2007, recently retired the aircraft, returning it to a German leasing group.
Anyhow, the A380 contains many credentials. It has a unique double-decker style, graceful long wings, and engine operation so silent that pilots were disturbed by even crying babies. A380 is relatively green, with 50 percent less CO2 emissions per passenger than any other aircraft. It measures 239 feet in length, with a wingspan of 262 feet. Being a double-decker itβs 79 feet tall. The plane has a maximum take-off weight of 1,234,600lbs, but a maximum landing weight of 850,984lb. All that weight is pushed along by the aircraftβs four 70,000lb thrust engines, either the Rolls Royce Trent 900 or the General Electric / Pratt & Whitney Engine Alliance GP7200. It could accommodate 555 passengers in three service classes, although an all-economy configuration could carry as many as 800. The plane has a range of 15,500 km, and it can fly long routes fairly quickly, with a cruising speed of up to .85 Mach, or around 1020kmph.

Although Air Canadaβs widebody fleet revamp is complete, the airline has opted to extend the life of its A330 twin aisle jets and add four more of the type to its fleet in lieu of exercising options for 787s to replace its ageing 767 jets. The company has assessed that refurbishing its A330s for specific missions will generate better returns than placing an order for new aircraft.
