[ Technical Analysis : What is Awesome Oscillator? ]

Developed by Larry Williams, the ultimate oscillator is a theoretical idea in finance that explains why most oscillators have issues when utilized for varying periods of time. The oscillator is a technical analysis indicator that is based on the idea that "pressure" to buy or sell can be represented by the point at which the closing price of a day falls inside the real range of the day. The threshold by which the close on a given day is above the "true low" is known as "buying pressure" and is the first figure in the computation.

The difference between the trading low for that day and the prior close is the actual low. The difference between the "true high" and the true low above is known as the true range, which is also the same as the average true range. The trading high for that particular day plus the prior close equals the real high.

[ Technical Analysis : What is Bollinger Bands? ]

Bollinger Bands are a sort of statistical graphic that, using a formulaic method developed by John Bollinger in the 1980s, characterize the pricing and volatility over time of a financial instrument or commodity. These charts are used by financial traders as a methodical tool to help guide trading decisions, as part of technical analysis, or to operate automated trading systems. Bollinger Bands present volatility (represented by the width of the envelope) and a graphical band (the envelope maximum and minimum of moving averages, akin to Keltner or Donchian channels) on a single two-dimensional chart.

Why Did Warren Buffett Invest Heavily in Coca-Cola in the Late 1980s?

And why has he kept it ever since?

Warren Buffett bought more than $1 billion in shares of the Coca-Cola Company in 1988 an amount that was then equivalent to 6.2% of the company. The purchase made it the single largest position in Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. portfolio at the time.

Coca-Cola stock remains one of Berkshire Hathaway's biggest holdings today. According to the firm's June 30, 2023, 13F filing, the holding company owned a 9.2% stake worth more than $23 billion in the company.

Its 400 million shares also make it Coca-Cola's largest single shareholder.

But why did the Berkshire Hathaway chair make the purchase at that time, when the stock was still reeling after the 1987 market crash? And why has he held onto shares of the soft drink company for so long?

KEY TAKEAWAYS
β€’ Coca-Cola stock was hit hard by the 1987 stock market crash, along with many others.3
4
β€’ Buffett & Co. determined that Coca-Cola was a good company, had great value, could withstand competition, and was poised to recover.
β€’ The Coca-Cola stake marked a significant change in Buffett's investing philosophy.
β€’ Today, Coca-Cola is Berkshire's fourth-biggest holding by market value.

[ What Causes Dividends per Share to Decrease? ]

Dividends per share (DPS) is the sum of all dividends a company pays out over a fiscal year divided by the number of outstanding shares. It is used to share a company's profits with its shareholders.

Causes of Decreased Dividends per Share
Some of the reasons a company's DPS may decrease include reinvestment in a firm's operations, debt reduction, and poor earnings.

Reinvesting Profits
A company may decide to reinvest to its profits into the development of new products or core business assets. In this case, although a company retains some of its earnings, this action does not necessarily signal a company is financially weak. This reinvestment may lead to a higher DPS in the future.

For example, suppose company XYZ is a technology company that paid a DPS of $1.20 last year. However, for this year, it is planning to decrease its dividend to 60 cents per share to reinvest profits for the creation of a new software product. This reinvestment leads to a decrease in dividends in the short term.

Debt Reduction
A company may also decrease its dividends to reduce its debt.
For example, suppose company ABC has debt it must pay off before the end of next year. Last year, company ABC paid a dividend of $1.50 per share. However, this year, it keeps some of its profits and reduces its dividend to 30 cents per share because it chooses to pay down its debt further. This leads to a decrease in DPS in the short term and may increase it in the long term.

Poor Earnings Performance
Poor earnings also contribute to a reduction in DPS.For example, suppose company ZYX reported a loss this year due to an economic downturn. Last year, ZYX paid a dividend of $2.00 per share. In this case, the company decides to remove its dividend because it does not have profit to disperse to its shareholders.

[ Technical Analysis : What is Moving Average? ]

A moving average, also known as a rolling average, running average, moving mean, or rolling mean, is a statistical technique that is used to examine data points by averaging several successive selections of the entire data set. Simple, cumulative, or weighted forms are some examples of variations. A moving average is a kind of convolution in mathematics. It is therefore thought of as a low-pass finite impulse response filter in signal processing. It is referred to as a boxcar filter since the boxcar function specifies its filter coefficients. Sometimes downsampling comes after it.

When dealing with time series data, a moving average is frequently used to highlight longer-term trends or cycles and smooth out short-term volatility. The moving average's parameters will be adjusted based on the application, which determines the threshold between short- and long-term. Examining the gross domestic product, employment, and other macroeconomic time series is another use for it in economics. A moving average filters higher frequency components without any particular relationship to time when applied to non-time series data, however usually some sort of ordering is inferred. Simplistically speaking, it can be thought of as data smoothing.
