πŸ™ Today we celebrate the Feast of Sts Peter and Paul πŸ™

They suffered under the Emperor Nero upon the same day of the same year. Peter was crucified in the city with his head downwards, and is buried at the Vatican beside the Triumphal Way, surrounded by the veneration of the whole world. Paul was beheaded with the sword, and buried beside the Ostian Way, surrounded by the same honour.

-- Collect --

O God, Who didst hallow this day by the Testifying of thine Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, grant unto thy Church, whose foundations Thou wast pleased to lay by their hands, the grace always in all things to remain faithful to their teaching.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord. Amen.

🩸 The Feast of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus 🩸

Saturday 1 July
8:30am
Sung Mass (1962 - Latin)

On the Feast of the Most Precious Blood, we honour Christ in the Blood which was shed for us on Calvary, the Blood offered in the Sacrifice of the Mass, and the Blood that washes and makes pure our soul inaugurating in us the beginning of eternal life.
Due to unforeseen circumstances there will be no 7am Mass this Friday 22 September.
Let us celebrate the Feast of our Guardian Angels!
Mass Monday 2 October is at 10:00am

Guardian Angels are an incredible gift given to us by God, they are most powerful companions who guide and inspire us in the ways of holiness, asceticism, and prayer. They protect us from the wiles of the evil one. They aid us at every moment of our lives.

Pope Pius IX prayed to his Guardian Angel multiple times every day, St Francis de Sales would pause before preaching to pray to his listeners Guardian Angels, St Padre Pio would tell people to address his Guardian Angel if they needed his prayers, parents can pray to their children's Guardian Angels to protect their children from moral harm.

St Bernard reminds how we ought to show gratitude to our Guardian Angels for their aid.

Angel of God,
my guardian dear,
to whom God's love commits me here,
ever this day, be at my side,
to light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.
St John Henry Newman of the Oratory is well known for his great intellectual works and his pastoral sermons. Perhaps less well known are the struggles he faced in holding fast to the truth that he found in the Catholic Church. His conversion to Catholicism was at the sacrifice of his position in society, his friends, his colleagues, his income, and even opposition from his family.

In light of some of the difficulties currently facing the Church we can look to Newman's essay "The Development of Christian Doctrine" in which he gives us principles to assess genuine development of doctrine from error, explaining those principles originally outlined by St Vincent of Lerin. Genuine developments in understanding of doctrine must maintain continuity with the original deposit of faith, ensuring that the core beliefs of the Church remain intact. That it should exhibit a logical and coherent progression from earlier teachings, avoiding abrupt and radical shifts.

----

Let us pray
O God, who bestowed on the Priest Saint John Henry Newman the grace to follow your kindly light and find peace in your Church; graciously grant that, through his intercession and example, we may be led out of shadows and images into the fulness of your truth. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Let us make the most of these few remaining days of Advent!
On the third day of Christmas we also celebrate St John the Apostle!

St John was not just an Apostle, but an intimate friend to Jesus. He is the Prince of Virginity, for he offered his whole soul and body as a sacrifice to our Lord. His chastity gave him a special place of nearness and intimacy with God, so much so that he was the beloved disciple of Our Lord.

It is fitting we celebrate his feast in the midst of Christmas, for surviving all the other Apostles, he was requested by the Church to write down his Gospel to respond to heretics who denied the divinity of Christ. Thus his Gospel teaches us the Word was God, and the Word was made flesh.

It was at the foot of the cross, when he took Mary as his mother, and Mary took him as her Son, thus he became Christ's brother.

---
Mercifully, O Lord, enlighten thy Church: that being taught by blessed John, thine Apostle and Evangelist, she may come to thy eternal rewards. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
