Pituitary gland
The Pituitary gland is regulated by the Paraventricular Nucleus and the Supraoptic Nucleus through the Superior Hypophyseal Artery, forming a vascular network that includes the Primary Capillary Plexus, which connects via the Hypophyseal Portal Veins to the Anterior Pituitary. Meanwhile, the Inferior Hypophyseal Artery supports the Neurohypophysis, also known as the Posterior Pituitary, where hormonal release is directly regulated by hypothalamic neurons. Blood flow continues through small vessels such as the Venule and again Venule, completing the circulation. Interestingly, activity in this neuroendocrine system has even been loosely associated with subconscious processing and dreams, linking physiology with dreams in a broader interpretative sense. #brainhealth #brainfacts #brainanatomy #neuroscience #neuroanatomy
The blood supply to the brain is primarily provided by the common carotid arteries, which divide into the internal carotid artery and the external carotid artery. The carotid sinus, located near the bifurcation, contains receptors that help regulate blood pressure. After entering the cranial cavity, the internal carotid artery gives rise to several important branches, including the ophthalmic artery, anterior choroidal artery, anterior cerebral artery, and middle cerebral artery. The left and right anterior cerebral artery are connected by the anterior communicating artery, forming part of the cerebral arterial circle. The posterior communicating artery links the internal carotid circulation with the posterior cerebral circulation, ensuring collateral blood flow. Together, the anterior cerebral artery, middle cerebral artery, internal carotid artery, anterior choroidal artery, posterior communicating artery, and ophthalmic artery play essential roles in supplying oxygenated blood to the brain.

Light enters the eye through the transparent cornea, passing through the pupil whose size is controlled by the ciliary body. The light is then focused by the lens onto the retina, where photoreceptors convert it into neural signals, especially at the fovea for sharp central vision. These signals travel through the optic disc into the optic nerve, along with the central retinal vein and artery, which supply and drain the retina. The optic nerve carries the visual information to the lateral geniculate nucleus, and from there it is transmitted to the visual cortex for processing. The shape and movement of the eye are controlled by muscles including the superior rectus muscle and inferior rectus muscle, while the outer white protective layer of the eye is the sclera. #brainfacts #brainanatomy #brainhealth #vision #neuroscience
