SUZUKI CUP BACK TO LION CITY

๐Ÿ“ "Unlike the 2018 tournament that was decentralised, and editions from 2002 to 2016 that saw two nations hosting games in each of the two groups, the upcoming Dec 5-Jan 1 tournament will be held in one country to minimise travelling during the pandemic." (๐Ÿ“ฐ The Straits Times)

๐Ÿค“"Despite the recent spike in COVID-19 infected cases, the decision to allow us to host the region's marquee tournament is a shot in arm, especially months ago the AFC Cup Asean zone matches were cancelled due to the pandemic.

Given such a scale, we shall see some stringent protocols in place for the necessary protection."

โ“Some online sources claimed one of the venues will be Bishan Stadium, and if that is true, we shall see some action on the new surface.

HOPE WE AREN'T LATE FOR WORK

โฑ๏ธ It was a blessing that there weren't much stoppage in this AFF Suzuki Cup match between Singapore and Myanmar.

Hope we aren't late for work on the following day. ๐Ÿ˜

CARRY ON THEIR DAD'S LEGACY

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘จ It is nothing new in local football to see siblings playing for the national team, when the legendary Quah brothers had a number of them turned out for the Lions during the 1960s to 1970s.

๐Ÿง It will be something of a significance if Ilhan is able to join his "abangs" - Irfan and Ikhsan, whom both are mainstay of the Lions at any point of the onging AFF Suzuki Cup.

WAS IT BENNY'S IDEA IN 1977?

๐Ÿ’ก While it may seem like a different concept when he made the suggestion in 1977, but the ongoing AFF Suzuki Cup - a tournament contested by Asean nations should be the brainchild of Indonesian Benny Moelyono.

๐Ÿ† Speaking to The Straits Times during 1978 Pre-World Cup qualifiers, the then Indonesia assistant team manager proposed an "Asean Cup soccer tournament, run along the lines of the UEFA Cup"

๐Ÿšซ According to Moelyono, Asean "needs is a meaningful competition," and invitation tournaments like King's Cup (of Thailand), Merdeka Cup (Tournament of Malaysia) were for the "sake of it" which did not arouse national spirit like the Asean tournament he proposed.

๐Ÿค Moelyono suggested the home-and-away basis for this tournament which he believed will improve the standard of the game in this region and foster ties among the countries.

THAT STEADY PAIR OF HANDS

๐Ÿ—ฃ"My football career has been like that, I've played, I've been on the bench, I've even been in the stands. There have always been ups and downs... I'm immune to it." Hassan Sunny

๐Ÿ“"The starting spot is presently his again at the ongoing Suzuki Cup, and he has been in good form in Singapore's three group matches, conceding just once in 270 minutes while also making a number of important stops." (๐Ÿ—žThe Straits Times)

๐Ÿค“ We are always blessed with good quality 'keepers that competition for the slot between the posts has always been competitive, but question is if that conveyor belt is still functioning properly?
