Is Canada the worst country for tech on earth?

They pay low TC, which is bad, but they are also extremely uncultured and have some of the worst weather on earth. Europe also pays low TC but at least you can enjoy the culture and go around exploring Europe. European weather is also much better. The same can be said about some Asian cities like Singapore. Canada? A wasteland. Why does anyone ever move there?

Our son was rejected by every college he applied to. He landed a full-time government job that pays $27/hr which he started in May right after graduating high school and has moved to another state for his job. He has pretty decent stats and is a happy kid in general. Any idea what went wrong? Any tips for applying again next year?

- Volunteered for 1 hour for a local political campaign

- Learn-to-code program for high schoolers with stipend
- Alumni club for above learn-to-code program
- Paid vehicle engineering internship
- Swisscom Zurich DevOps internship for 11 weeks

Addicted to cocaine

I have become addicted to cocaine and now I am using it from the second I wake up till a few hours before I switch to weed and try to get tired enough to sleep. Using ~1g/day. The cost is ~$650/week.

Aside from the negative impact it is having on my health (nose inflamed pretty much constantly) and on my finances it hasn't negatively impacted my life. Just as productive on my job as ever, relationship with my wife is good, etc.

I want to want to quit... But at this stage I am not even resisting the urge to use.

Mostly venting as I'm sure none of you perfect tech millionaires can relate or advise.

Immigrants, do you find Americans’ obsession with race overbearing?

I’ve spent over ten years in this country, and I find that the narrative is becoming more extreme and attaching itself to everything in everyday life. Drugs are a race issue. Safety is a race issue. Even where Trader Joe’s is located is a race issue. In my job, I had to talk about my views on race. Honestly, I am relatively new here and I barely know where Dakota is. It feels like a forced religion and belief to me when all I want is meritocracy. Yes it is part of the country’s history but so are Christianity, Scientology Mormonism.

I am exhausted, and honestly, this is turning me politically in the other direction. And yes, I find affirmative action ridiculous, and I find allowing kids to transition their sex at a young age to be dangerous. But I wonder if it’s just me. (Before you come for me, I am a gay immigrant raised by a single mom and earned my scholarship to come here.)

I am surprised, to be honest, about how my attitude has changed over the last five years on such issues. Do you find the obsession with race overbearing and imposing?
