One day in hell ~ By Ara Chapter two - Caught on camera
At the Dean’s office I still denied the fact that Darren gave me the paper and Darren denied it too. I wasn’t worried at all because this was not the first time I was getting sent to the Dean’s office. My father runs an oil company and he’s filthy rich, he’s also made donations to the school ever since I gained admission, so I get away with a lot of things. I was sure my father was going to come to my rescue once again. According to the Dean if we did not tell her the whole truth she would have to check the C.C.T.V footage. We still denied that Darren was involved, Darren and I knew there was no C.C.T.V footage. I’ve been in this school for four years and they have never had cameras.
"Well I was hoping we wouldn’t resort to this but since you and your friend are refusing to tell the truth, I have no choice but to check the C.C.T.V footage. Thankfully your father was generous enough to donate some to the school" The Dean finally said.
Darren and I were both dumbfounded. Why would my father do that? Why would he feel the need to donate cameras to the school? This time around it’s really over for me, for us, Darren and I. The Dean dialed a number on her phone and called someone and gave them orders to prepare the C.C.T.V footage for us to watch. That was enough! I wasn’t going to stay for the humiliation. I was going to be expelled anyway, so I did the one thing that I’m good at; running away. I got up and left the office, even though the Dean asked me to sit back down. Even though Darren asked me not to do that. I just bolted out of the office. I was not going to stay for the embarrassment. I went back to my hostel, packed my things and left campus.
I did not even know where I was going, I didn’t want to go home because I’d have to face my mother. While driving I exceeded the speed limit, but this is Accra, I would get away with this. Besides I was already caught up in a lot of mess, it would not get any worse.
Saved by the cops or not…
I was wrong, I was driving so recklessly that I knocked down a motorcycle that was right in front of me. I got of the car to check on him and he was still alive. People started gathering around us. I could hear older women and men insulting me and complaining about how young people drive recklessly. I tried to do what I do best; running away. But not this time, some of the men grabbed me and threatened to beat me up if I didn’t send the guy I knocked down to the hospital. The police arrived at the scene and saved me from the men that were about to lynch me. One policeman put the motorcyclist in their car and sent him to the hospital. The other police man took my car keys and drove us to the station.
On our way to the station I begged him to let me go. I told him who my father is and I promised to give him whatever amount he wants if he sets me free.
"Are you trying to bribe me?", he asked.
"No, no sir… I’m not trying to bribe you but if you let me go I will…"
"You will what?, you’re trying to bribe a police man? Do you know the gravity what you’re doing? Is this car even yours? And where is your drivers license?" He asked.
"The car is mine, I mean it’s one of my dad’s cars and my drivers license is at home" I replied. "So not only are you trying to bribe a police man, you’re also lying to a policeman, I know boys like you, you don’t have a license. You are in very deep trouble and your father cannot save you, you have the right to remain silent." He added.
This was my first time meeting an honest police man on the streets of Accra. I couldn’t believe he didn’t want money. The worst thing about all this is, he’s right. I do not have a drivers license. I mean I do, my dad asked me to go and pick it up after they finished working on it, but I never did, because I didn’t think I needed it.

Chapter three - Save us
I was put in a small cell at the police station. There were two men in there. One of them was skinny, with red hollow eyes. He looked like he had no life left in him. His breath stank with the strong smell of alcohol and his clothes were worn out and dirty. There was another man in there that looked pretty decent. He had on neat clothes and looked good. The cell was as hot as a fiery furnace, I almost felt like I’d evaporate into thin air with how hot I was feeling. It was a very small cell with no chairs, no bed, nothing. It also had a very strong smell, the icing on the cake was that; it was dark, creepy and had a lot of mosquitoes. The man that looked neat recognized who I was and upon speaking to him I recognized who he was as well. Apparently he was a well known blogger and was in there because he spread misinformation about one business tycoon in the country. The drunk man on the other hand, managed to get on my last nerve. He was laughing for no reason and passing irrelevant comments to disrupt the conversation I was having with the blogger. He even told me that if my parents are so rich then they should save me and save them too. The blogger also asked me to convince my dad to help him get out when I’m bailed out.
On the topic of being bailed out; I was surprised that I was still in this cell. About six hours which felt like eternity had passed by and I had still not received a call back from my dad. I was allowed to place a call when I was first brought into the police station. I called my dad several times but to no avail. I did not call my mom because I was not ready to hear her rant but I began regretting not calling her when I had the chance. Hopefully I could convince the police officers to let me call my mom as my phone and other belongings were seized. I was happy when the female police officer brought me my phone, she said the number had called so many times. After realizing who it was. I wasn’t so happy to answer it because I knew things were about to get worse for me.
Relationship anniversary
It was my girlfriend; Abena. We were supposed to be on a lunch date at this time. It was to celebrate our relationship anniversary. Abena and I had been in a relationship for three years. I was in level 200 when I met her at the mall for the first time. She was freshly in level 100 then, however we were in different schools. She took celebrations like birthdays, Valentine’s Day, relationship anniversary etc. very seriously but I did not. Last year I forgot about our relationship anniversary and she almost broke up with me. This year I almost forgot about it but she reminded me. She had a lot of plans for the day. I was supposed to meet her at the restaurant after my final exams. We were also supposed to go to the beach after that, then to the movies and some other places she had listed. She booked everything, all I had to do was show up and pay, but here I was in a cell. When I answered the call she had a lot of things to say and she did not even allow me to explain anything to her, she was also crying and sounded really upset.
"First of all it’s OVER! I can’t believe you stood me up. If you didn’t want to hang out you could’ve just said so, I’ve been waiting for you for over one hour, you obviously hate me and you don’t take this relationship seriously. How could you do this to me on the day of our anniversary? I don’t want to hear any explanation. I don’t care! I’m tired of this and I don’t want to see you ever again. Have a nice life."
After she said this, she hang up. Luckily, my mom called. The Dean had called her and reported the incident that happened at school to her and she was livid. Telling her I was locked up only made things worse but at least she would come to my rescue soon. I knew she’d kill me once we get home.

One day in hell ~ By Ara Chapter 4 - Wake up
After getting out of the cell the first person I saw was my mom. She rushed to hug me which was surprising because on the phone she was really angry. She told me, "Sincere you don’t always have to run away, if you had stayed in school you wouldn’t be here, I need you to wake up, HEY WAKE UP! WAKE UP!". I felt a hard slap on my left cheek. I immediately woke up and sat on the bed. It was Darren, I was asleep this whole time. So everything was a dream, thank God!
I was still startled and couldn’t bring myself to speak. "Boy… you missed the exams! How could you be sleeping by this time? Did you forget we had a paper? Why didn’t you set your alarm? Yo… are you good? Why are you quiet?" Even after everything Darren said, I was still quiet. I was still in shock. What kind of dream was that?
"Chaley you’re scaring me o, why are you not saying anything? Do you not care that you missed the exams?" Darren asked.
I finally tapped back into reality and answered him, "Chaley, I’m just happy to be in bed, I’d rather be in bed than be in jail, you’ll not believe the dream I had. Did you get to copy in the exam hall?"
"No, today they brought a new set of invigilators and before the exams I heard rumors that there were cameras, I might even fail the course", Darren answered.
"The dream I had was crazy, I still can’t believe it was just a dream, thank God I over-slept, I might’ve been in jail by now." I added.
I got out of bed and got ready to go for my drivers license. I was so scared that I did not even drive. I ordered a ride and Darren went with me. On the way I told him the details of the dream and he couldn’t believe all that happened in one dream. Honestly I was grateful that at least it was just a dream. I could write that last paper the following year and I’d be sure to study for that. After I picked up my drivers license, I quickly got ready for the date with my girlfriend. I even got her a little gift to celebrate our anniversary.
On the date I told her everything that happened in the dream and she admitted that if I did not show up for our date she would’ve broken up with me. We laughed about it but it really wasn’t funny. If everything that happened in the dream was real I would’ve been in serious trouble. I promised myself that I would take life more seriously and I would do my best to not get in trouble and that’s how my day went.

Call me, maybe ~ Ara
If you are wondering if I still think of you…
I do not!
You never come to mind
It is not as if you have built yourself a mansion in my mind and heart
I moved on
Life is good
Why would I think of you?
Or of those eyes that have the power to mute all my thoughts
One look and all of a sudden…
I lose my ability to reason
One look and all of a sudden my legs fail me
And all balance is lost
Or of those arms
Those arms that wrap around me
And all of a sudden…
I’m ready to give it all up
All of a sudden consequences do not matter
All of a sudden I’m ready to go
Ready to go wherever you choose
Ready to do whatever it takes
If you’re wondering if I miss you
If I miss us…
I do not!
I do not drool over your pictures from time to time
My heart does not skip a beat when I hear your name
I know nothing about your current life
Because I do not care
What did you think? That I still yearn for you?
Absolutely not!
You are out of sight
And out of mind
And you shall remain so
But if you miss me, if you miss us
I do not miss you, but just in case you miss me
Place that call
Who knows?
I might just come flying back into your arms
Or running, or walking,
Crawling even, but I might end up in your arms
Because a sequel never hurt anybody
So place that call
"That call" that can lead me to make a series of bad decisions
"That call" that can take me back to the pit
The pit I struggled so hard to escape
In all honesty, I am barely out of the pit
But being a fool twice
Never killed anyone
So just in case you miss me
I am a call away
If you are wondering if I still think of you…

You’re welcome! Have a seat.
On the menu we have…
Normalcy and oddity
Pick one and be quick!
If you picked "normalcy"
That’s a good choice
You get to be like everyone else
You get to be likable
You get to follow trends even though
You may not like or understand them
You get to fit in
You get to be "normal", just like everyone else
If you picked oddity
That’s a great choice
You get to stand out in a room full of people
Here, you’re not meant to be like everyone else
You’re meant to be yourself
You will do things because you love them and not because that’s the trend
Yes people will not understand
Give them time, they’ll adjust
Even if they never adjust…
Some things are not meant for people to understand
And some people were never made to disappear in crowds
They were made to stand out

They say a cheetah is fast
But this is faster
It does a lot of things
But 'lasting’ is not one of them
If 'Longevity' is what you are looking for
I apologize for disappointing you
We do not serve that here
It has never been on our menu
If you are looking for something or perhaps someone
You can count on
Someone reliable
Someone trustworthy
I apologize for disappointing you
There is no such person here
People like that are only heard of
Never seen
If what you are looking for is something that is good
So good that you will keep yearning for more
We serve that here
On one condition
It will only last you a fortnight
That is; if you are lucky
But you can trust it to last…
A minimum of three business days
Yes I know that is not long enough
But you see you do not really have a choice
This is just the music we are dancing to
And will be dancing to for a long time
You can leave the dance floor if you please
But one thing is for sure
You will be back
Because unfortunately for you
There is no better anywhere
This is the music we are dancing to
Yes it is fast
Faster than a Peregrine Falcon
Nonetheless you happen to find yourself in the 21st Century
You happen to be a Gen Z
This is the Gen Z love
Where else are you running to?

I think I’m going to love you for a long time - By Ara
Chapter One ~ Like a 'Daniel Caesar' Song
"It is soothing
Calm, sweet, smooth
Glides effortlessly like honey on the tongue
Makes you feel alive
This is exactly how the love I have for you is
It is not fast, it is not doing too much
It is enough
Just what you need
A comfortable bed to lay in on a rainy day
A pillow to your head
Music to your ears
Like a Daniel Caesar song"
This is what Leilani had to write about her best friend Lael after hanging out at the ice cream shop. After reading what she wrote down in her Diary she laid in her bed with the Diary on her chest, fantasizing over things that will never happen. To Lael she’s his best friend and will remain his best friend, the thought that she could be his girlfriend one day never crossed his mind, but in her head they were already married. While she was in her bed fantasizing and smiling, her older brother Fiifi was in her room, right by her door, staring at her in disgust. "What at all is in that Diary of yours?", he finally broke the silence. She got up immediately and asked her brother what he was doing there and how long he had been there. "I know you’re writing those letters of yours to your boyfriend, why won’t you just tell him how you feel instead of writing it in a book? The funny thing is, he’s also as childish as you, how can he not tell that you like him? He’s so blind, everyone around you two can tell that you like each other except him, I don’t know if he hasn’t realized it yet or he’s just a fool." Leilani and Fiifi got into an argument after this, this was their usual drill, Fiifi would tease her about her situation with Lael and they would get into an argument. Leilani would always argue that she only sees Lael as a friend and nothing else, but that was a lie that Fiifi was not willing to buy.
How did we get here?
Salma and Jamie had been best friends their whole lives, they even had a joint wedding. They believed they should have been sisters and not best friends. After Marriage Salma had three children, all boys. Her eldest was Jace, her second son was Andy and her third son was Jake, who was also called Fiifi. Jamie however was not able to have children for a long time. After years of marriage she finally got pregnant with her only son Lael. Not long after Jamie got pregnant, Salma also got pregnant with her fourth child but only daughter Leilani. They were so excited to be pregnant at the same time that, they gave their children names that sounded similar, because to them their children would be twins. Therefore, even though Leilani was born 3 months after Lael was born, they were treated like twins by their mothers. They went to the same schools, were in the same class all their lives and were in each other’s houses very often. They grew up to be best friends just like their mothers but to Leilani what they had was beyond friendship. She wanted more, she just couldn’t bring herself to tell him, she did not want to ruin their friendship. Her brother Jake (Fiifi) knew how his sister felt, Jake was only two years older than Leilani, so he was closer to her than her other brothers. He was also very good friends with Lael. Leilani had been keeping her little secret from Lael for years, they were twenty-two now and Jake believed it was the best time for her to tell him before he gets into something serious with someone else.
