JUST IN: UP suspends the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) for the third straight year, UP Office of Admissions Director Francisco N. de los Reyes says.
UP will instead administer UP College Applications (UPCA) for A.Y. 2023-2024 following the unanimous adoption of a resolution by the University Councils (UC) of the eight constituent universities of the UP System.
UP will continue to implement the “admissions score model" to compute the university predicted grade (UPG) of applicants and select first-year students.
De los Reyes cites "safety and welfare of more than 100,000 student-applicants from all over the country and the 1,600 personnel in testing centers nationwide" as reasons for the adoption of the resolution by the UCs.
In 2020 and 2021, the UPCAT was suspended due to "immense logistical challenge of administering the tests in over 100 centers throughout the country."
