Another community blockade at Webb Dock in Melbourne, blocking and preventing the loading of a ZIM-contracted MSC ship, with all work at the port being disrupted for the evening shift.

Similar to the previous community blockade, dozens of Public Order Response Team (PORT) were deployed outfitted in riot control gear including shields. Rubber bullets, tear gas rounds and flash bangs were used extensively against the protesters. This 'force of numbers' approach towards protests has become all too common in Victoria.

Not to be outdone nor deterred, protesters also stepped up their tactics, establishing makeshift barricades to halt the advance of the cops and to prolong the blockade for as long as possible.

Improved electoral placards for politicians from the Liberal and Labor Party, hung up around Hobart before the Tasmanian State election which took place yesterday.

The election marked another day of an increasingly disenfranchised public being made to choose between a gang of increasingly blatant evils. The Libs will kill the earth and Labour will do the same whilst declaring a climate emergency. Both major parties have left Tasweigians without affordable housing, without healthcare, with the worst education system in the country. Both major parties remain complicit in gen0cide while they grovel for your votes and their huge taxpayer funded pensions.

Our dreams will never fit into their ballot boxes. Change happens in our homes and in our streets. Look after your community, take grassroots action.

ANONYMOUS PEOPLE HELP EGG LAYING CHICKENS FREE FROM A FARM.
18th March, Midlands UK.

β€œSneaking past houses and fields we arrived at the chicken shed we had previously scouted and opened the door. Immediately the heat and stench hit us in the face as we stepped into the darkness. Broken eggshells crunched underfoot and our torches illuminated cages covered in a thick layer of dust, cobwebs and shit. Filled with cramped chickens covered in bald patches with combs so pale they were almost white.

We took as many as we could carry. We did this action for them but we write this report for you. This movement is what we make it, make it one where chickens being liberated in the night is so common its barely worth mentioning. Where farmers wake up to find towers of eggs smashed and equipment broken on the daily. Where insurers won’t insure butcher shops because windows will never last long.

The hunger strike launched by political prisoners demanding the physical freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Γ–calan, who is kept under isolation in Δ°mralΔ± F Type High Security Closed Prison, and a solution to the Kurdish question is on its 121st day.
This independently made documentary follows the three day Asia Pacific Economic Summit (World Economic Forum) held at Melbourne’s Crown Casino from September 11-13, 2000 and the events that took place between the S-11 protesters and the Victorian Police during those three days.

The camera has captured some rather up-close and disturbing images of the physical violence dealt by the police to the protesters, particularly in the first two days of the Summit.

It was estimated that over 10,000 protesters managed to prevent 150-200 participants from attending the Summit on Day 1.

On β€˜Australian’ fascism

The fascistic relationship between β€˜Australia’ and Aboriginal people is mirrored in extractive relations between the colony and land. Goenpul scholar Aileen Moreton-Robinson writes: β€˜The Indigenous body signifies our title to land and our death reintegrates our body with that of our mother the earth.’ Just as colonial society dehumanises Aboriginal people, it desecrates the land for profit and to perpetuate a way of life which is anti-life. β€˜Australia’s use and export of fossil fuels also represents an act of imperialist aggression against those who suffer most from climate crisis, within and outside its borders. 

These acts of violence against country have echoes in state the repression deployed against environmental activists, who are punished both directly through carceral systems and at arms’ length by encouraging the public to undertake vigilante reprisals.  While carceral violence levelled at settler activists is by no means as severe as that experienced by Aboriginal people, when those activists are brought into conflict with the State, opportunities for solidarity emerge.

Some environmentalists have sought to distinguish themselves as β€˜respectable’  protestors who don’t deserve to be in jail, implicitly appealing to the State’s legitimacy. Others have come to understand that colonial prisons are inherently illegitimate and that β€˜Australia’ itself must be overturned. 

The State fears collaboration between anti-colonial and environmental movements and seeks to frighten and brutalise those who would make this happen. Resisting this is anti-fascism. In police custody, climate activists see the Aboriginal flag scratched into cell walls,  realise their own freedom is bound up with Aboriginal freedom, and commit more powerfully to the liberation of this stolen land.
