Ever wonder where our cover photo for our blog came from?

It’s actually a photo of people outside parliament house during the 1996 Invasion of the Australian parliament.

On Monday 19th August, a demonstration in Canberra, Australia, turned into an occupation of that country's Parliament building. The demonstartion was called by the ACTU, the official union organisation. Their response was predictable and once again showed how thoroughly union organisations have been incorporated into capitalism's system of social control.

The rally was 25,000 strong despite it not being an official strike day, and about 10% of this tried to get into the Parliament. Police blocked the way and things turned nasty. Battering rams were used by Construction workers to bash in the glass doors and people streamed into the building over the tops of one another. There were several injuries to both protesters and police and 50 or so arrests. The media of course called the action thuggery, the Labor Party and top union officials distanced themselves from the action

The following article comprises a series of accounts from eye-witnesses who participated in the eventsx of the day, plus a couple of background pieces from other sources in Australia. All these accounts were obtained off the Internet.

The Burrup Peninsula in Western Australia has become critical in the nation's battle against climate change - with protesters escalating their responses to the proposed expansion of a massive gas project there.

It's leading to an increasingly combative confrontation between protesters and the state. Four Corners has analysed arrest data and found climate activists across the country are being charged with serious offences in unprecedented numbers.
More than 20 of those charges were directed towards a small group of Perth activists called Disrupt Burrup Hub.

The group made headlines in August 2023 when police arrested them outside the house of Woodside Energy chief executive Meg O'Neill.

This documentary reveals how far both sides are willing to go for what they believe in.

Aboriginal Tent Embassy banner denouncing the Australian Constitution and the "Indigenous Voice to Parliament", a proposed bureaucratic advisory body which would be created if an imminent referendum on the issue is successful.

Disgusting moment cops allow huge group of Nazis to march through Melbourne's Flinders St Station doing banned Hitler salutes before taking over a train and asking passengers if they are Jewish

A group of masked men and woman throwing banned Nazi salutes and carrying a banner reading 'Expose Jewish Power' have been captured on video terrifying other passengers on a Melbourne train.

The group of about 30 people were singing songs about white supremacy and posing for photographs before they were approached by a small group of police officers.
Keep an eye out in the CBD for this band of clumsy LARPers who can’t seem to keep their shoes or possessions when the go out for β€œactivism”

Congratulations to the people who reoccupied the social center Ζι΢άνια in Athens.

The far-right government and its mercenary police have spent years trying to break the back of the anarchist movement in Greece. They have inflicted considerable harm, but they have not won.
PIP put together a very simple checklist of things to consider for the Palestine rally happening today at 1 pm, Hyde Park.

You should wear black bloc every time you attend a street protest. Here's how to do it.

Note on covid safety, you can and should wear an N95 under your balaclava.
