Backlash is a digital community for Indigenous, ecological and anti-fascist resistance within the territory occupied by the Australian state. Our mission is to provide a platform to promote revolutionary theory and action.
What We Do
We publish original content alongside anonymous submissions
Information is drawn from published sources, both independent and corporate media; corrections are welcomed.
We also put an emphasis on encouraging groups and activists to publicise and theorise their actions on this site, through the form of posts, interviews and analysis.
What We Do not Do
As a media platform, Backlash does not take responsibility for planning or coordinating protests or actions. Instead, we focus on highlighting and amplifying the efforts of those who are already organizing such events in their local communities.
We do not advocate or promote violence or non-violence as a means of achieving goals. We hold great respect for the efforts of local organisers and their understanding of the circumstances they encounter.
Who is Backlash?
Backlash, is a slogan for anonymous direct action. It is not a group with membership, but a mouthpiece to amplify incidents that shatter, however briefly, the myth of consensus & social peace. Anyone could be Backlash. β it could be your next-door neighbor or the person sitting behind you on the train. You and your friends already form an affinity group, the structure best suited for militant direct action.

I made a video looking at how the National Socialist Network and their allies publicly oppose child grooming but in private want to groom girls as young as 14 into marriage.

Ever wonder where our cover photo for our blog came from?
Itβs actually a photo of people outside parliament house during the 1996 Invasion of the Australian parliament.
On Monday 19th August, a demonstration in Canberra, Australia, turned into an occupation of that country's Parliament building. The demonstartion was called by the ACTU, the official union organisation. Their response was predictable and once again showed how thoroughly union organisations have been incorporated into capitalism's system of social control.
The rally was 25,000 strong despite it not being an official strike day, and about 10% of this tried to get into the Parliament. Police blocked the way and things turned nasty. Battering rams were used by Construction workers to bash in the glass doors and people streamed into the building over the tops of one another. There were several injuries to both protesters and police and 50 or so arrests. The media of course called the action thuggery, the Labor Party and top union officials distanced themselves from the action
The following article comprises a series of accounts from eye-witnesses who participated in the eventsx of the day, plus a couple of background pieces from other sources in Australia. All these accounts were obtained off the Internet.

Invasion of the Australian parliament, 1996
An article produced from eye-witness accounts of the invasion of the Australian Parliament on 19th August, 1996. From Subversion #20 (1996)
The Burrup Peninsula in Western Australia has become critical in the nation's battle against climate change - with protesters escalating their responses to the proposed expansion of a massive gas project there.
It's leading to an increasingly combative confrontation between protesters and the state. Four Corners has analysed arrest data and found climate activists across the country are being charged with serious offences in unprecedented numbers.
More than 20 of those charges were directed towards a small group of Perth activists called Disrupt Burrup Hub.
The group made headlines in August 2023 when police arrested them outside the house of Woodside Energy chief executive Meg O'Neill.
This documentary reveals how far both sides are willing to go for what they believe in.

Congratulations to the people who reoccupied the social center Ξι΢άνια in Athens.
The far-right government and its mercenary police have spent years trying to break the back of the anarchist movement in Greece. They have inflicted considerable harm, but they have not won.
