If only we longed for him (عج) truly like we long for our loved ones, who are distant from us.

If only we cried for his (عج) return like we cry to God, when our heart desires another.

If only our hearts ached enough because of this longing like our hearts ache, when someone we love passes away. If only we sat on the prayer mat long enough daily and prayed for his (عج) reappearance and begged Allah swt to hasten it.

Since AI language models are so effective at summaries, literature reviews, comparisons, translations, and generally rehashing information, there will be a renewed emphasis on making actual discoveries — something they are currently inept at doing.

So if you’re a young academic, that’s where your attention should go. The old “summary-analysis-critique” model is something that ChatGPT 4o can do better than most undergraduate students now. It can now give basic overviews on subjects that rival online encyclopedias.

But what ChatGPT can’t fake is actual fieldwork, networking, and experiential knowledge. It also struggles to engage in moral philosophy and create intellectual paradigm shifts. Any non-status quo thinking requires a great deal of originality, creativity and interdisciplinary thinking — which these models struggle with.

In short, the future requires you to (1) do the hard work and thinking, and (2) to be your self — find your own unique style, voice, and viewpoints.
