"While I believe in the efficacy of the vaccine enough to get it myself, and encourage Iowans to do the same, I also respect that it is a personal choice. But I strongly oppose vaccine passports and I believe that we must take a stand as a state against them, which I intend to do either through legislation or executive action." -Gov. Kim Reynolds

Under a proposed bill, Iowa businesses would not be able to ask about or maintain records of a person's medical treatment status — including vaccinations.

The bill would additionally prohibit businesses from hiring or firing someone based on their vaccination status. It would also ban denying goods and services, providing incentives or "segregation or discrimination" based on that status.

Gov. Kim Reynolds announced her plan to end the state’s disaster declaration and shut down its case count and vaccination websites later this month.
“We cannot continue to suspend duly enacted laws and treat COVID-19 as a public health emergency indefinitely,” Reynolds said in a statement. “After two years, it’s no longer feasible or necessary. The flu and other infectious illnesses are part of our everyday lives, and coronavirus can be managed similarly.”
