U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Rochelle Walensky said on Friday (August 26) that very few people who have gotten monkeypox shots in the United States have received the second dose needed for full protection.
"A clear picture of how well the vaccine, Jynneos, will protect Americans against the disease, which can cause flulike symptoms, a painful rash and scarring, does not exist.
Already, more than 19,400 Americans have caught it. The World Health Organization has warned against relying on the vaccine alone, citing scattered “breakthrough” infections in vaccinated people in Europe.
And a new study in the Netherlands, which has not been peer reviewed, suggested that the vaccine produces relatively low levels of antibodies."
