Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله تعالى) said:
This is why the two Imāms, ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Mubārak and Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal, and others said: If people differ about something, then look at what the people of the frontlines (mujāhidīn) are upon, for the truth is with them; because Allāh says: And those who strive for Us, we will surely guide them to Our ways.

And many of the people are ignorant of this honorable principle, even to the point that I have heard some individuals who claim to be scholars and du’at saying on an arabic radio station that christians are our brothers—what a dangerous statement this is.

Know that these actions are from the religion of jāhiliyyah, which the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was sent with to disavow from, remove and erase its remnants, because they are from major shirk, which the clear and decisive verses indicate is prohibited. And these festivals are similar to the festivals of jāhiliyyah. And whoever believes in its permissibility and legality, and that it is a form of worship and a religion: such is from the most disbelieving of the creations of Allāh, and their most misguided. And whoever has doubts regarding their disbelief—after establishing ḥujjah upon them—he is a kāfir.

As for the mus͟hrikūn of our time, their s͟hirk is constant—may Allāh protect us—both in times of ease and hardship. In fact, they may even be more engaged in s͟hirk during hardship than in ease. This indicates—may Allāh protect us—the extent of their attachment to those whom they revere and worship. This is well known regarding the mus͟hrikūn who ascribe themselves to Islām, such as the Rāfiḍah. It is reported that in times of distress, they increase their istig͟hāthah through ʿAlī and al-Ḥusayn Likewise, the qubūriyyūn, such as the worshippers of al-Badawī and others in Miṣr and elsewhere, when faced with calamities, invoke those whom they deify from among the dead.
