1. Basic principles of dimensioning.
A. Use the correct dimensioning elements
> Dimension line: Indicates the direction and extent of the dimension.
> Extension line: Extends from the feature being dimensioned.Arrowheads: Mark the ends of a dimension line.
> Dimension value: Indicates the actual size of the feature.

B. Dimension all necessary features
Include the dimensions required to manufacture and inspect the component, such as:
> Overall length, width, and height.
> Hole diameters and locations.
> Radii, chamfers, slots, and steps.
> Angles and other special features, where applicable.

C. Arrange dimensions clearly
> Place dimensions outside the object outline whenever practical.
> Place smaller dimensions closer to the object and larger overall dimensions farther away.
> Avoid crossing dimension lines and extension lines.
> Keep dimension values readable and evenly spaced.

D. Use the correct symbols
~ Diameter: ∅, e.g. ∅20
~ Radius: R, e.g. R10
~ Angular dimension: e.g. 45∘
~ Chamfer: use an appropriate callout, e.g. 2×45∘, where applicable.
