BUSTING SPACE MYTHS #1 🌌
MYTH: Earth is closer to the sun in summer.
REALITY: Earth's orbit isn't a perfect circle, but the distance variation is only about 3.1 million miles (5 million km)—roughly 3%. In fact, the Northern Hemisphere is actually closer to the sun during winter than summer!❄️ ☀️
The real driver of seasons is Earth's axial tilt.🌍 ✂️ This tilt causes sunlight to hit the Northern and Southern Hemispheres at different angles and for different durations throughout the year.

Winter: Short days + low light angle. Energy spreads out through the atmosphere, distributing heat thinly.🌧
Summer: Long days + steep light angle. Energy takes a direct path, concentrating heat into a smaller area.🌴

The Epic Journey of Astronomical Science (TEJAS) ⭐️
Key Epochs in the Journey
• Ancient & Early Astronomy: Early stargazers and Babylonian astronomers established the inaugural records of celestial movements.📄
• The Scientific Revolution: Galileo Galilei revolutionized the discipline by pioneering the experimental scientific method and utilizing a refracting telescope.🔭
• The Age of Astrophysics: Scientists like Mary Somerville (born 1780) contributed to the comprehension of mechanics, paving the way for predicting celestial objects.⚙️
• Cosmic Discovery: Edwin Hubble revolutionized our understanding of the universe's scale.🌌
• Modern Exploration: Current endeavors include studying the life cycle of stars, searching for extraterrestrial oceans on moons like Enceladus, and identifying planets around neighboring stars such as Proxima Centauri.🪐
Major Discoveries
• Life Cycles of Stars: Observing stellar evolution from birth and maturity to remnant stages.✨
• Our Solar System's Limits: Exploring the heliosphere and the outer boundaries where solar influence concludes.☀️
• Exoplanets: Detecting rocky and gaseous planets, some of which are situated within habitable zones.🌐
Key Figures and Institutions
• Galileo Galilei: Recognized as the "father of modern astronomy." 👨🔬
• Mary Somerville: A pioneer who helped shape early astrophysics.✂️
• Edwin Hubble: Redefined the structure of the cosmos.🔭
• American Astronomical Society (AAS): A major organization advancing the understanding of the universe since 1899.🏛
