A mage poll about the prevalence of mental disorders between Asexuals

Which one are you diagnosed with, or you suspect you might have? If you have more than one, you might mention the in the comment section.

The best thing is that i put separate options for those who are diagnosed and those who think they might have them, but as the maximum number of options is 6, i don't do it. So even if you think you have it but you're not yet diagnosed, you might choose the option.

_

Edit: If you have a mental disorder that is not mentioned in the options, choose "result". And if you have no mental disorder at all, choose "None".

Want to help a mental health app create a good question set about asexuality? :)

Hi Ace-Community!

I'm working for a mental health application and at the moment, we're working on a new question set that turns all around sex: sexual desire, sexual intercourse etc. As we think it's important to include asexuality, we tried to dive in to the topic and came up with some questions already. However, apart from the stuff we read our team is quite unfamiliar with asexuality. So we thought: Why not ask the people directly?

There'll be an introductory question that decides whether the user will be asked the (asexuality) questions or not. I listed some possibilities down in the survey - which do you think fits the best?

Context: The option we're favoring at the moment is asking straight ahead: "Are you asexual?" or "Do you experience yourself as asexual?" The other option is asking more subtly, something like "Do you generally have the desire to have sex with others?". What would you feel more comfortable with? A direct question or a subtle one? Or something completely different?

And of course, beyond the introductory question, we're also interested in other topics you find important regarding asexuality and mental health! Would love to discuss with you in the comment section :)

Thanks ahead and best wishes!

Netflix's Sex Education is such an eye-opener

Ok so a bit of context: I don't live in your typical western 1st world. Hookups practically don't exist and being virgin at 30+ is quite normal here. I was reluctant to try the 1st episode after seeing the title but I think it's a well written show overall.

Growing up, I did realize I was a bit different than my peers. Most boys would talk about hot(?) girls, masturbation, and celebrity crushes. And there's me, confused as hell why they're having this worthless conversation, I was just trying to fit in, indifferent to dirty talks at best. Before watching the show, since anything sex related is considered socially taboo here (including proper sex-ed, especially sex before marriage) I didn't even realize I've been living my life 100% sexually pressure-free. I thought everyone else was genuinely joking, but now I'm aware some of them may have been repressing their urges to this day because of our own conservative culture.

Now I know I shouldn't confuse TV depiction with reality but I was actually surprised to see how western sex and hookup culture work in the show. I guess you weren't kidding about those horny teenagers and oversexualization of everything. I had to slowly accept the fact that what I saw is more or less the default for most of the world and I'm actually the "weird" one. Some of you vented about feeling broken and left out because of your asexuality. I gotta admit I didn't fully comprehend the reality of your situations, it must've been very rough and you all have my sympathy and support. I can't imagine myself being peer pressured into sex stuffs all the time.

Can you tell me more about western school (sex) life? Is the show more or less accurate or exaggerated? How about in less conservative eastern countries?

I’m too afraid to ask… (TW)

I only came out about two years ago and to a few people still but i do have a burning question in mind, please enlighten me.

When I was a kid, someone close to me assaulted me. I think; I’m not even sure if it’s a false memory or if it’s true. Regardless, I think this influenced my whole life and when I reclaimed my sexuality, I chose to be asexual. Is that even valid? I’m afraid I’m dragging the community because of this choice I made, but reading and interacting with aces (mostly online, though) made me feel I belong somewhere. Thank you all in advance
