The Lack of Asexual Education in the LGBTQA+ Community
Hi! This might be a bit of a rant that I think most of you here will probably relate to and empathize with.
I'm sure you're aware that there is hardly any representation and/or education for asexuals in the LGBTQA+ community.
Asexuals have been around just as long as gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, and yet we really aren't represented and people aren't being educated about us.
For example, when men and women back 50 and more years ago (and still tbh) would say "I don't want to get married, I have no desire to", they were shunned by society and their families possibly just as much as other queer folk. I'm not saying all of these people were asexual as we are a minority, but there's a pretty good chance that several of them were.
When you tell someone you're asexual, what they say back is always just ridiculous. "so you don't masturbate?" "So you don't watch porn?" things like this. *screams* A LOT OF ACES MASTURBATE! Self pleasuring has nothing to do with sexual attraction half the time.
Also, just like lesbians can still like fictional characters who are men, asexuals can be sexually attracted to fictional characters, too. This is controversial, but because fictional characters are unattainable, they don't count as LGBTQA+ has to do with attraction to real people only.
Anyways thanks for listening to my ted talk, Aces! <3

I spoke up and I'm shaking
So there was some kind of diversity talk at work and asexuality appeared but the guy basically described celibacy and I was obviously disappointed since he's supposed to know this stuff. So I felt brave and raised my hand and try to say about how it's not a choice and that our views on sex are different and now I'm shaking.
Ps. He said that obviously! if aces want children they are willing to have sex 🙄 but still this is about me being brave and getting a bit closer to coming out as ace.

I recently realised I'm asexual and can't stop crying
So, it's been a suspicion of mine for over a year now when I found out what it was, and I was seriously considering it for a couple of weeks. But now, it's finally clicked and lots of things make a lot more sense to me now but now I'm just super sad. I had been going to the doctor and asking why I don't want to have sex and they'd say my libido just isn't that high and I'm probably just stressed or depressed. My boyfriend kept getting upset that I didn't initiate sex because it simply never crossed my mind unless he brought it up. I kept just trying to fix it, but now I'm sad because I feel like I'll never be 'normal' and I know this isn't something that can just be fixed. I'm just sharing because I feel super alone. Thanks guys.

Asexuality and aromanticism are not the same thing.
Lately I have seen SO MANY posts on this and the meme sub that compare asexuality and aromanticism as if they are the same thing. They are not. People keep posting a meme of an aro experience with the caption “aCe ViBEs” or something similar. People will say “I’m asexual, so obviously I don’t want a partner.” It is so freaking frustrating.
Asexuality is lack of sexual attraction. It is NOT lack of romantic attraction, that is aromanticism. There are plenty of alloromantic aces and allosexual aros and treating being ace and being aro as if they are the same invalidates both those groups.
No, not wanting a boyfriend or not wanting kids or not wanting to kiss anyone is not “ace vibes.” It’s not even aro vibes because aro people could still want to do those things, they just don’t experience romantic attraction to people.
I’m biromantic, grayromantic, and asexual, and seeing memes and posts like this feels so invalidating and confusing as it makes me question if I’m really ace when I still experience romantic attraction.
