I'm not asexual, but I gotta tell you peeps I love this subreddit
I subbed to this sub about 1/2 months ago, because my girlfriend is ace and I just wanted to hear more from ace people hoping I'd get more accustomed and understand it ever so slightly better.
But over time I realized, this is one of the friendliest, modt welcoming communities on all of the website, so I keep coming back to it as just a nice place to witness other people be very positive and welcoming.
Unlike many other subs I frequent which pull in many more aggressive communities, this one just somehow manages to bring the best of people.
Love your sub, love you people, keep up the amazing ace representation!

Friend: Would you want to date me/have sex?
Me, a demiromantic asexual: Well, possibly later, but actually no.

Writing Asexual Characters
I would like opinions on whether I’m being insensitive in how I handle the writing of an asexual character in my book... Now, obviously I don’t want to write cookie cutter characters and I, ultimately, write for myself. However, art doesn’t exist in a vacuum, and I would never want to unintentionally hurt or offend someone with the way I’ve approached the topic.
My main question is:
Would it be insensitive and/or damaging to the Ace community to write an Aro/Ace character that struggles with depression and loneliness? I wouldn’t want to reaffirm harmful stereotypes that all Ace’s just “haven’t found the right one yet”, or imply that a character can’t be happy without a romantic relationship.
However, I would like to stay true to my character. To be clear, his sexuality and mental health are only two (unrelated) facets of a well-rounded and amazing character, that I feel as though I’ve known my whole life. He is kind, thoughtful, sarcastic, sassy, caring, intelligent, and perceptive. These topics would also be broached in a sensitive way, and would not become the focus of his character arc, in any way.
I 100% want to be true to my character and his story, but there is already too little Ace representation in any form of entertainment, and that makes me hesitant to just charge in irresponsibly...
Thoughts?
