The Nimbus Data Rescue Project saw NSIDC digitizing images & infrared radiometer data from Nimbus satellites from the 1960s, 1970s & 1980s. Early Nimbus satellites made observations of sea ice that predate the continuous sea ice satellite record. nsidc.org/data/nimbus

Last week, we hosted the first workshop for the new funding for the Catalyst Strategic NZ–US Joint Antarctic Research Programme. This Strategic Catalyst funding from MBIE provides up to five million dollars over five years to advance joint Antarctic research.

Today is World Bicycle Day!

Bikes have been a longstanding part of Scott Base life, but thanks to fat tyres, getting around on two wheels is now much easier! It's a popular way to unwind, and some people have even trained for triathlons while on base—minus the swimming 🥶!

Arctic sea ice extent in May declined at a slightly faster pace compared to average. In Antarctica, the Bellingshausen Sea remains nearly ice free as far south as 72 degrees South by the end of May. bit.ly/43qMQTH
