The Architects' Handbook
A handy design companion that contains detailed descriptions of works from various fields (ex. Airports, Business parks, cinemas, schools, mass housing etc.) with each topic written by different authors in the field. It offers an insight for pre design research, offering context of given subject, standards (RIBA mostly) etc.

Serpentine Pavilion 2024
Minsuk Cho's 23rd Serpentine Pavilion deviates from the traditional central structure on the Serpentine South lawn. Instead of a singular building, Cho proposes an "Archipelagic Void," a circular open space surrounded by five smaller, structures. This approach aims to explore new spatial narratives and possibilities within the pavilion's context.
The five "islands" are unique in size, height, and form. Constructed primarily of timber, they are supported by identical footings that accommodate the site's sloping topography. A steel ring connects the curving edges of their roofs, creating a central oculus that draws natural light. These islands function as nodes in the lawn, connecting to the Serpentine South gallery and pedestrian networks. The arrangement references traditional Korean houses, featuring a central courtyard that connects to various residential quarters. Each island serves a different purpose, from hosting art installations to providing a space for public gatherings.

Typography and Abstraction as a design approach.
Atypography is an art movement that graphically represents traditional writing
systems in an unconventional way, creating an authentic design that remains
readable while concealing text signs at first glance.
It defies conventional typography rules with non-standard fonts, experimental
layouts, and innovative techniques, offering a distinctive and unique visual
identity that challenges norms.

THE KITCHEN TRIANGLE THEORY
Question: what's a kitchen triangle?
A kitchen triangle is described based on the activities expected to happen in a kitchen, and what (at least) three appliances are needed for it. So let's start with the common one.
COOKING - F S C
You take your food out the freezer, clean if required, prep the cook.
A prep cycle for, say coffee, may not necessarily involve a cooktop. A coffee machine may be portable but still correct placement of outlets for such appliances should be considered in regards to the cooking triangle.
DISHES - D S B
A dishwasher or the sink (do you briefly rinse dishes before placing in the DW? ), Bins to discard any food remnants and a utensil cabinet to replace utensils after wash cycle is complete.
From this you can now understand how kitchen triangles work. Remember, it's the function that determines it
Some ancillary activities to consider include: clothes washing, general house mending and cleaning, children's play, and serving food on nooks/island)
(Ref: Internal Functions: Kitchens "Architect's Handbook" pg. 188)
-
For commercial kitchens however, it's important to divide up even more on the activities i.e., Main dish prep, vegetables and salad prep, dish-wash, pastry prep, etc. and additional appliances are required. Therefore, this theory may not be applicable)
