Allergies.... fall precautions...aspiration precautions... seizure precautions... isolation precautions...neutropenic precautions... THE LIST GOES ON 😭

There are so many 'precautions' we have to take for our patients, and the NCELX will test you on all of them! Remember, this is a SAFETY test to ensure you can protect your patients! Safety and Infection control is 9-15% of your exam! So let's do a quick summary of the most common precautions:

🤧 ALLERGIES - Probably the most common

🤒 NEUTROPENIC PRECAUTIONS - Your client is at risk of developing an infection due to a compromised immune system! You'll need to take extra care to prevent any germs from getting into their room. Keep the door closed. NO sick visitors allowed...minimize visitation appropriately. No fresh flowers, fresh fruits, or fresh veggies. After water has been out for 4 hours - toss it!

#1 NCLEX TIP
Understand the WHY behind the signs and symptoms of each disease process you are studying.
WHY do we see all these signs in Cushing's Disease??
Clients with Cushing's have TOO MANY STEROIDS, which includes glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids.
Glucocorticoids cause immunosuppression, break down fats and proteins and inhibit insulin. S0, when a client has TOO MANY glucocorticoids, this leads to immunosuppression, fat redistribution (lipolysis of the extremities causing skinny arms and legs, but lipogenesis in the trunk causing truncal obesity and buffalo hump), and hyperglycemia
Mineralocorticoids cause retention of sodium and water and excretion of potassium. SO, when a client has TOO MANY mineralocorticoids this leads to fluid retention (weight gain, moon face), hypervolemic hypernatremia, and hypokalemia.
🛑 memorizing...start understanding! If you're ready to finally pass your NCLEX and really understand what you're studying, our Sure Pass Program is for you. Get the lectures you need.

Let's talk about the different gauges of IVs
The GAUGE refers to how large the catheter that you'll be inserting is. Unlike with most of the other tubes and drains we use, the bigger the number of an gauge, the small the catheter is. From smallest to largest, the four most common sizes are 24, 22, 20, and 18 gauge. Lucky for us, they come in standardized colors so we know what we're dealing with!
For all those with upcoming dates and still facing difficulties get to your materials from @archerofficial1
