AMU Honors and Recognizes Prof. Ann Cassiman, an expat, for her Impactful Career
Arba Minch University (AMU) honored Prof. Ann Cassiman, an expatriate staff in college Social Sciences and Humanities Department of Sociology and Anthropology, for her remarkable legacies of academic excellence and transformative impact on 16th September, 2024.
Academic Affairs Vice President and Delegate for AMU President, Dr. Alemayehu Chufamo, praising Prof. Ann for her professional role as academic adviser and appreciating her kind heartedness and supportiveness to her students, said that “We thank you so much Professor for your extraordinary commitment and selfless support to our staff in particular and to the university in general for the last one decade”. Your profession is instrumental to the problems of the developing nations where there are a number of cases related to ethnicity, religion, cultural differences and so on, but you have been skillfully managing to equip our young staff with necessary knowledge and skills to contribute positively so that we also can live peacefully and develop, he remarked.
Mr.Eshetu Ewnetu, a PhD candidate and the program coordinator, said, we are here to express our deepest appreciation for the remarkable contribution of Prof. Ann Cassiman to AMU in general and to the department of Sociology and Social Anthropology in particular. Prof. Ann’s unwavering dedication has shaped the futures of our PhD students with Dr. Mark Breusers guiding them with expertise and ensuring their work meets the highest academic standards, he noted. Mr. Eshetu also added that Prof. Ann significantly contributed in developing the Advanced Masters Program (CADES) with its innovative approaches and rigorous standards of academic excellence in AMU and beyond. According to Mr. Eshetu, the annual Field School Program, the initiative providing invaluable hands on experience for our students and staff, is also another opportunity area where Prof. Ann has been making efforts on strengthening partnerships with academic institutions globally.
Mr.Behailu Merdekios (Assoc. Prof.) in his closing remark said that the respect, appreciation and recognition that we give for Prof. Ann is very significant; more than her academic support, the ethical values she instilled through a decade long journey with AMU has had the students’ testimonies. I wish to continue with more strengthened collaborations in the future when things are favorable and good for us to come in the PhD Program, he hopped.
Dr. Bosha Bombe, department head for Sociology and Social Anthropology and former students from different corners of the world and AMU staff who got supported well with Prof. Ann expressed their heartfelt feelings and appreciations for her. The Gamo elders’ gave their blessings to Prof. Ann.
Prof. Ann Cassiman thanked AMU for honoring her with a certificate of recognition. She also said that gradually we were working together with the department of Anthropology here and it is very nice for me to work with AMU. Remembering the field school experience, she said it was very important moment in bringing anthropologies from Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Belgium, and Ethiopia together here in Arba Minch and then to go to Hammer, South Omo Zone to teach students the role of anthropology according to their context in which students exchange and enrich ideas learn a lot from each other, she noted.

በ‹‹Matrice 300 RTK›› ድሮን አጠቃቀም ላይ ለተመራማሪዎች ሥልጠና ተሰጠ
አርባ ምንጭ ዩኒቨርሲቲ-አይዩሲ (AMU-IUC) በፕሮጀክቱ ንዑሳን ፕሮጀክቶች የ3ኛ ዲግሪ ጥናቶቻቸውን ለሚሠሩ ተመራማሪዎች አዲስ ባስመጣው በ‹‹Matrice 300 RTK›› ድሮን አጠቃቀም ላይ ከመስከረም 06-10/2017 ዓ/ም ሥልጠና ሰጥቷል፡፡
የ‹‹AMU-IUC›› ፕሮጀክት ማኔጀር ዶ/ር ፋሲል እሸቱ እንደገለጹት ዘመናዊ ድሮኑ በ“AMU IUC” ፕሮጀክት የፕሮጀክት VI አማካኝነት የተገኘ ሲሆን ቴክኖሎጂው ዩኒቨርሲቲው በአካባቢ ጥበቃ እና መልሶ ማልማት ላይ ለሚያከናውናቸው ጥናቶች የመረጃ አሰባሰብን ትክክለኛነት እና ቅልጥፍናን ከማሻሻል ባለፈ የምርምር ዩኒቨርሲቲ እንደመሆኑ ከፍተኛ ደረጃና ጥራት ያለው ጥናትና ምርምር ለማድረግ ያለውን አቅም የሚያሳድግ ነው፡፡ የድሮን ቴክኖሎጂው እንደ አጠቃላይ ለአርባ ምንጭ ዩኒቨርሲቲም ሆነ ለአካባቢው ጥሩ ግብአት ነው ያሉት ዶ/ር ፋሲል በተለይም ለአካባቢ መልሶ ማልት ጥናት፣ የተለያዩ የአፈርና ውኃ ጥበቃ ሥራዎች ውጤታማነታቸውን በሳይንሳዊ መንገድ ለመሰነድ እንዲሁም ባለድርሻ አካላትን ለማሳመን ይጠቅማል ብለዋል፡፡
ከቤልጂዬም ‹‹Ghent University›› የመጡት አሠልጣኝ ፕ/ር ውተር ሜስ/Prof. Wouter Maes/ ሥልጠና የሰጡበት ድሮን ከቀደሙ ድሮኖች በእጅጉ የላቀ አቅምና የመረጃ ጥራት ያለው መሆኑን ገልጸው ትልልቅ ምርምሮች ሲካሄዱ መረጃ ለመሰብሰብ የሚወስደውን ጊዜ የሚያሳጥር፣ በሰው ሊደረሱ የማይችሉ አስቸጋሪ ቦታዎች ላይ መሥራት የሚያስችል፣ በተለያዩ የሞገድ ርዝመቶች ከፍተኛ ጥራት ያላቸው ምስሎችን የሚወስዱ ባለብዙ ስፔክትራል (multispectral) ካሜራዎች ያሉት በመሆኑ ተመራማሪዎች አስተማማኝ ዝርዝር መረጃዎችን ለመሰብሰብ ያስችላቸዋል ብለዋል፡፡
በየኒቨርሲቲው የውኃ አቅርቦትና አካባቢ ምኅንድስና ፋከልቲ መምህርትና በ‹‹AMU IUC›› ፕሮጀክት VI በቤልጂዬም ሀገር የ3ኛ ዲግሪ ትምህርቷን በመከታተል ላይ የምትገኘው መ/ርት ፌቨን ክንፈ ሪሞት ሴንሲንግ ቴክኖሎጂን በውኃ ሥነ ምኅዳር መጠቀም ላይ ምርምራቸውን እያካሄዱ ነው፡፡ ከቅርብ ጊዜ ወዲህ ከአባያ ሐይቅ ወደ ጫሞ ሐይቅ ሞልቶ በሚፈስሰው ውኃ ምክንያት በጫሞ ሐይቅ ላይ እየተከሰተ ያለውን የውኃ ጥራት ችግር መቅረፍና የሐይቁን ጤናማነት መመለስ የምርምሩ ዋና ዓላማ መሆኑን መ/ርት ፌቨን ትገልጻለች፡፡ መ/ርት ፌቨን ምርምሩን ለማካሄድ ከዚህ ቀደም የውኃ ናሙና ተሰብስቦ በላቦራቶሪ የሚታይ ሲሆን ምርምሩ በዘመናዊ ድሮኖች ሲደገፍ የናሙና ውጤቱን የሳታላይት ምስል ጋር በማቀናጀት ሐይቁን በአጭር ጊዜ ውስጥ ለመታደግ ይረዳል ብለዋል፡፡
በሐይቁ ላይ ያለው እንቦጭ አረም ሽፋን ያለበት ደረጃ፣ ሐይቁ አካባቢ ያሉ ግብርና፣ ዓሣ ማጥመድና የመሳሰሉ የሰዎች እንቅስቀሴዎች ያላቸው ተጽዕኖ፣ የሐይቁ ዙሪያ ረግረጋማ ስፍራ ተከልሎ መጠበቁ ያለው በጎ አስተዋጽኦ፣ ከደጋማው ክፍል ያለውን የአፈር መሸርሸር መቆጣጠር ቢቻል በሐይቁ ላይ የሚያመጣውን ለውጥና የመሳሰሉትን መረጃዎች በትክክልና ያለብዙ ድካም ሰብስቦ ለመተንተን ድሮኑ ከፍተኛ ጠቃሜታ እንዳለው ተመራማሪዋ ተናግረዋል፡፡
በ‹‹AMU IUC›› ፕሮጀክት IV የ3ኛ ዲግሪ ተማሪ የሆነው መ/ር ይበልጣል ይሁኔ በአካባቢው በሚገኙ ግብአቶች የአፈር መሸርሸርን በተለይም ቦረቦር መሬትን ማከምና መልሶ ማገገም ላይ ያተኮረ ጥናት በማካሄድ ላይ ነው፡፡ ጥናቱ በአብዛኛው በአባያ ሐይቅ ተፋሰስ አካባቢ መሆኑንና ለዚህም ከሙከራዎች በዘለለ የድሮን ቴክኖሎጂን እንደሚጠቀም የተናገረው መ/ር ይበልጣል ቀደም ሲል የሚጠቀምበት ድሮን በመጠን ትንሽና መረጃዎችን ጠቅለል አድርጎ የሚያሳይ መሆኑን ገልጿል፡፡
እንደ ተመራማሪው ቴክኖሎጂውን ተጠቅሞ ቦረቦር መሬትን ማከም በሀገራችን ብዙም ያልተሠራበት ሲሆን አሁን ላይ ሥልጠና የወሰደበት ድሮን በመጠኑ ተለቅ ያለ፣ በተለያዩ ሀገራት ለትልልቅ ኢንደስትሪዎች የሚጠቀሙበትና እያንዳንዱን መረጃ ለይቶ በማሳየት ጊዜ፣ ጉልበትና የገንዘብ ወጪን በመቆጠብ ተአማኒ መረጃ መሰብሰብ የሚያስችል ነው፡፡ የጫሞ ሐይቅን ለአብነት የጠቀሰው ተመራማሪው የሐይቁን የደለል መጠን ለማወቅ ከዚህ ቀደም ሞዴል ይጠቀም እንደነበር አስታውሶ አዲሱ ድሮን የተገጠሙለት ሴንሰሮች የደለሉን መጠንና የውኃውን ጥራት ማሳየት የሚችሉ፣ እንቦጭ አረምን ከሌሎች አረንጓዴ ቅጠሎች የሚለይ (Multi Spectral Band) ያለው እንዲሁም ሐይቁ አካባቢ የሚሠሩ የመልሶ ማልማት ሥራዎች ምን ያህል ውጤታማ እንደሆኑ ለመቆጣጠር የሚያስችል ነው ብለዋል፡፡
“Matrice 300 RTK” ድሮን ከፍተኛ ጥራት ያለው ምስል የሚያነሳ፣ እስከ 55 ደቂቃ የበረራ ጊዜ ያለው፣ የበረራ ቆይታውን አስተማማኝ ለማድረግ ጥንድ ባትሪዎች ያሉት፣ እስከ 2.7 ኪ.ግ ተጨማሪ ሴንሰርና ካሜራ የመሳሰሉትን መሸከም የሚችል እንዲሁም በቀላል ዝናብና መሰል አስቸጋሪ የአየር ጠባይና አካባቢዎች ውስጥ ለመሥራት የሚያስችል ቴክኖሎጂ ነው፡፡
