Despite border blockade, Ukrainian soybean meal exports to Poland surge in December – APK-Inform🌱

According to operational data, in December of 2023/24 MY, the export of soybean meal from Ukraine increased to 88.000 tonnes, which was 26% higher than the November figure and reached the maximum monthly figure for almost 4 years (since February 2020).

Since the beginning of the current season, more than 90% of the total export of this product has gone to the land border.

Polish protesters block 'Medyka-Shehyni' checkpoint once again

On January 4, Polish farmers renewed the blocking of truck traffic through the "Medyka-Shehyni" checkpoint on the border with Ukraine. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported this in its Telegram channel.

"According to information provided by Polish border guards, as of January 4th around 09:00, a cargo transport blockade has been reinstated on the road leading to the 'Medyka' checkpoint in Poland, adjacent to the Ukrainian checkpoint 'Shehyni,'" states the message. "As a result, movement may encounter difficulties for both departing and incoming traffic to Poland."

Kazakhstan increased pulses export

In 2023, Kazakhstan significantly increased the export of pulses such as chickpeas and lentils.

As APK-Inform reports with reference to official statistics, over the 11 months of 2023, 8.25 thsd tonnes of Kazakh chickpeas were exported. This is almost 2 times more than the same figure for the previous year (4.4 thsd tonnes). The top three importers of these products include Turkey, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan.

The Food Corporation of Kazakhstan reported about the supply of Kazakh wheat to China – updated

Since the beginning of 2023, the Food Corporation (FC) has informed APK-Inform that it has successfully supplied 87 thousand tonnes of 3-grade food wheat to China.

2 contracts have already been completed with the Chinese company COFCO Resources SA for the supply of 75 thsd tonnes of wheat.

In the first days of the year, Ukraine exported 0.6 mln tonnes of grain

According to the State Customs Service, since the beginning of the 2023/24 MY, as of January 5, Ukraine exported 18.999 mln tonnes of grains and pulses, of which 607 thsd tonnes were shipped since the beginning of the current month. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine.

The specified indicator of seasonal export is still inferior to last year, when 23.432 mln tonnes were shipped as of January 6, of which 686 thsd tonnes were shipped in January.

Ukraine's export of rapeseed oil soars almost 6 times in 2023/24 MY – APK-Inform🌱

Based on recent operational data, Ukraine has significantly increased rapeseed oil exports during the first half of 2023/24 MY (July-December), with a total of 356.000 tonnes shipped. Ukraine aims for pre-war export heights – Svyridenko

According to the forecast of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, under the current conditions, the export of Ukrainian products will grow in the coming years. This was announced by the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Economy Yulia Svyridenko, the ministry's press service reported on January 5.

Polish farmers unblocked "Medyka-Shehyni" on the border with Ukraine

Polish farmers have concluded their blockade at the "Medyka-Szehyni" checkpoint. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine announced this in its Telegram channel.

Ukraine meets commitments, unblocks border with Poland as agreed – Ministry of Restoration

Ukraine has fulfilled its part of the agreements recorded in the action plan for unblocking the border with Poland. Deputy Minister of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine Serhiy Derkach said this on January 7 on the air of the Yedyni Novyny telethon, Ukrinform reports.

2024 starts with surge in Kazakh grain exports to Uzbekistan, drop in deliveries to China

In January 2024, KTZ (Kazakhstan Temir Zholy) has finalized a preliminary plan for exporting 1.5 mln tonnes of grain cargo. The agreement entails transporting 1.2 mln tonnes through the Saryagash border crossing, directed towards Uzbekistan. This decision was deliberated during a meeting of the operational grain headquarters at KTZ-Freight Transportation LLP, with the active participation of representatives from the Union of Grain Processors, the Association of Flour Millers of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Astyk Trans JSC.

As reported by the KTZ press service, in the first days of January, the delivery of trains to Uzbekistan increased noticeably (up to 32-33 trains per day), at the same time, the reception of trains by the Chinese side slowed down (11-12 trains per day).

Ukraine’s grain exports surpass 1 mln tonnes in first week of the year

According to the State Customs Service, since the beginning of 2023/24 MY, as of January 8, Ukraine exported 19.422 mln tonnes of grains and pulses, of which 1.03 mln tonnes were shipped in the current month. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine.

In terms of crops, since the beginning of the current MY, the following were exported:

Almost 15 mln tonnes of goods were exported through the "Ukrainian corridor" in the Black Sea during 5 months of its operation. Kazakhstan’s Russian wheat import surge beyond last year's levels

For 11 months of 2023, the volume of official wheat imports from the Russian Federation to Kazakhstan surpassed the corresponding figure recorded in 2022.

According to official statistics, in January-October 2023, 1.502 mln tonnes of Russian wheat were imported into the Republic of Kazakhstan. In November, according to preliminary estimates of APK-Inform, another 150.000 tonnes were imported. Thus, for 11 months of 2023, more than 1.6 mln tonnes of wheat were shipped to Kazakhstan from the Russian Federation.

Trade preferences for Ukraine in jeopardy as European Commissioner threatens blockage

European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski stated that he will not support the extension of the Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and the EU for the 2024/25 MY if his proposals are not taken into account. This is stated in the corresponding official letter that J. Wojciechowski sent to the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and to the vice-president of the European Commission for trade, Valdis Dombrowskis, reports the Polish agency RFM24.

The European Commissioner is advocating for the incorporation of protective provisions in the upcoming regulation, mirroring those already implemented by the EU for the import of Ukrainian rapeseed, corn, sunflower seed, and wheat.

Egypt announces new wheat tender

According to market operators, Egypt's state grain buyer GASC announced an international tender to purchase 60 thsd tonnes of wheat.

The shipment of grains is sought between February 29 - March 11 and/or March 12-22, subject to payment by letter of credit within 180 days or 270 days. Sellers must offer both payment options.

Ukraine is implementing the European certification system for food exports

Starting January 15, 2024, Ukraine is set to make a significant shift towards utilizing the online platform of the Euro Commission, known as TRACES NT, for the certification and facilitation of export, import, and transit processes involving animals, animal and vegetable products, food items, and feed. This was reported by the press service of the State Production and Consumer Services of Ukraine.

The implementation of the specified system should significantly simplify the formal procedures for the export and transit of food products to the territory of the European Union when crossing the state border of Ukraine.
