#Finland states it will NOT extradite its citizens to OTHER countries UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES - Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto.

Such a blanket statement may put the recent 10-point agreement the country signed with Turkey as a precondition to enter NATO at risk of falling apart, as they promised Ankara to return 12 people in exchange for its entry pass.

#Sweden and #Finland haven’t handed over a single terrorism suspect since a NATO deal was signed, Ankara says

Sweden and Finland will not become NATO members if they continue to ignore Ankara’s extradition demands, Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag has said.

“Until now, none of the persons accused of terrorism, whose extradition from Sweden and Finland was requested by Turkey, have been returned,” Bozdag told reporters on Saturday.
“Our expectation is not about those accused of fraud. The Swedish and the Finnish governments should understand this very well.”

Bozdag said the process of Sweden and Finland joining NATO “will not move a step forward” unless the matter is resolved.
Turkey agreed to formally back the invitation of the two Nordic states to join the US-led military bloc in June on condition that they would not support organizations that Ankara views as terrorist groups. Turkey has since stated that Sweden and Finland have failed to respect this deal.

Ankara has requested the extradition of 33 people accused of terrorism, according to the country’s media. The Swedish government, meanwhile, said this month that it would extradite one man convicted of credit card fraud.

Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said in June that Stockholm is handling extraditions to Turkey in accordance with international and European law. She added that Sweden does not support people who pose a threat to Turkish security.

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) has accused #Finland of violating the rights of Finnish children by leaving them in life-threatening conditions in Syrian camps.

The committee of 18 independent experts issued the findings on Wednesday after considering a case filed on behalf of six Finnish children held at al-Hol camp in Syria’s northeast region. The children belong to parents suspected of fighting for armed group ISIL (ISIS).

The committee said the prolonged detention of child victims “in life-threatening conditions” amounted to “inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment”.

Finland has the responsibility and power to protect the Finnish children in the Syrian camps against an imminent risk to their lives by taking action to repatriate them,” the CRC said in a statement

Hungarian Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee will consider on October 24 the ratification of #Sweden and #Finland to #NATO, according to its website.

The promoter of the proposal is Ágnes Vadai, deputy of the opposition Democratic Coalition party.

This is not the first time that Hungarian parliamentarians have discussed the accession of these two Nordic countries to the Alliance.

On October 3, the ratification proposal was rejected by 117 deputies, while 39 supported it.

On October 6, David Pressman, the US ambassador to Hungary, stated that he hopes "there is no need to exert pressure" on Budapest to ratify the respective treaty.
Criminals in #Finland have got hold of some of the weapons that were sent to Ukraine by its Western backers amid the conflict with Russia, the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has said.

“We've seen signs of these weapons already finding their way to Finland,” NBI detective superintendent Christer Ahlgren told the news outlet Yle on Sunday.

Assault rifles were among the weaponry, Ahlgren said, but declined to provide further details, as the investigation is still ongoing.

Arms trafficking routes from Ukraine to Finland have already been set up, according to the investigator.

“Three of the world's largest motorcycle gangs — that are part of larger international organizations — are active in Finland. One of these is Bandidos MC, which has a unit in every major Ukrainian city,” he said.

“Criminal organizations have their networks in Finnish commercial ports,”  Ahlgren pointed out, adding that security checks that are mandatory for airport staff do not apply to port workers.

Finland is not the only EU country with such problems, as “weapons shipped to Ukraine have also been found in Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands,” he said.

“Ukraine has received a large volume of weapons and that's good, but we're going to be dealing with these arms for decades and pay the price here,” Ahlgren pointed out.

As early as May, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin stressed the need for accountability for American arms supplied to Ukraine. Back then, Austin said he had discussed the issue with the Kiev authorities, who gave assurances on accountability.

In June, the EU’s law enforcement agency Europol warned that the Ukraine conflict could lead to a spike in arms and ammo being smuggled into the bloc.

Moscow has long criticized weapons deliveries to Kiev by the US, EU, UK and some other nations, arguing that they only prolong the conflict and increase the risk of a direct confrontation between Russia and NATO.
