The colossal statue standing in front of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s entrance is considered one of the most important antiquities at the library. The colossal Statue belongs to a Ptolemaic king represented as pharaoh in the Ancient Egyptian style and topped by the white crown of Upper Egypt. The colossal statue is made of pink granite and was recovered from the Alexandria, Eastern Harbor, at Qaitbay Citadel. Unfortunately, the statue bears no inscriptions referring to its owner. It was commonly believed that it depicts either Ptolemy I or Ptolemy II. However, by looking at the facial features and hairstyle, it is possible to identify it also as representing Ptolemy IX or Ptolemy X.
