It is reported that Imām Al-Zuhrī رحمه الله تعالى said:

‘We used to sometimes come to a scholar and what we learned of his manners was more beloved to us than the knowledge we took from him.’

Question:
Is it permissible to join institutes run by Sūfīs or other deviants only for the sole purpose of learning tajwīd, Qurʾān Memorization or the Arabic language in case there are no salafīs nearby to benefit from? Or is it preferred that I learn on my own as much as possible?

Answer:
The Shaykh Abū Bilāl responded by saying:

“No, he should not enter an institute run by Sūfīs. Rather he should guard his dīn and use the websites available from the salafiyyīn. There is plenty available from which he can study the language and tajwīd from the likes of aloloom.net until Allāh opens for him an opportunity that he may sit with the scholars and students of knowledge and learn upon the way the salaf.”

End of speech of Shaykh Abū Bilāl al-Ḥaḍramī

We should keep in mind the statements of the salaf warning against sitting with people of deviance. Like the statement of Marwān bin Muḥammad al-Tatarī (who is a companion of Imām Mālik):
“Three should not be trusted in the religion. A sūfī, a storyteller, and an innovator (even if he is one) who warns against the people of desires (A person who warns against few other innovators, but he himself is an innovator).”
[Reported by al-Qāḍī ʿIyāḍ in Tartīb al-Madārik]

Also the statement of Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allāh be pleased with him): “Do not sit with the people of desires. For indeed their sittings cause sickness of the heart.”
[Reported by Ibn Baṭṭah in al-Ibānah al-Kubrā]

Don’t Let This Ramadaan Go To Waste – Shaykh Abdullaah al-Iryaani حفظه الله.

Shaikh Abdullah Ibn Ahmad al-Iryaani hafidhuhallah said:

“And in the end, we advise with having Taqwa of Allah, the Exalted, seriousness and striving in the obedience of Allah, worship, obtaining understanding of the religion, holding fast to reading, and reciting the Noble Qur’an.

Beware of four matters:

Beware of heedlessness, for the month of Ramadan is not a month of amusement, games, staying up at night and following Television series, and competitions. Rather it is a month of obedience and hastening to the pleasure of the Lord of the creation.
Beware of being preoccupied with a large diversity and variety of food from striving in standing for prayer and increasing in the recitation of the Quran. For Ramadan is not a month to make ‘Itikaaf in the kitchen, busying with travelling, and wedding banquets. Rather, it is a month for the Muslim male and female to reach the level of one fasting and praying.
Beware of being negligent at the end of Ramadan from continuing to recite the Quran, striving in supplication, and silent supplication to Allah. For verily actions depend on the end. For many people, unfortunately, are preoccupied from Layltul-Qadr and its blessing with Eid clothing, going from market to market, and exhibition to exhibition. The guidance of the Prophet is doing ‘Itikaaf in the last ten nights of Ramadan and seeking Layltul Qadr in it.
Beware of procrastination. For how many people are in heedlessness, so when month of Ramadan ends they feel remorse and loss? Then he makes contracts, promises, and covenants that if Allah allows him to reach the next Ramadan that he will strive in Ramadan and make time for Ramadan from the beginning. When that promised Ramadan comes to him, he is in that same heedlessness and negligence. Like this, in Allah aid is sought, he is consistent in procrastination every year.
So you Oh Abdullah [slave of Allaah], and you Amatullah [female slave of Allaah] have made many promises that you have broken, many contracts you have nullified, is it not now that you should be truthful with Allah? Is it not now that you should fulfill your covenant with Allah? Then this is a Ramadan that you have reached so there is nothing upon you except to be truthful to Allah and seek His assistance in righteous actions

Shaykh Ahmad an-Najmee was asked:

Question:

The questioner says: Is a person who follows lessons [takes lessons] over the internet considered a student of knowledge or a layman, if he is not capable of travelling?

Answer:

“It is hoped that he will attain from good what he attains [i.e. from his study]”

Imam Al Uthaymeen said in explanation of Riyadus Saliheen page 58

"Similarly everything the person leaves for the sake of Allah, it's not befitting that he returns in regards to it, and it preceded us in the explanation of the hadeeth that from that is what some people do, where as they free themselves from the TV once they see from its harms and corruptions which increase upon its benefits, they left it for the sake of Allah and broke it, then they come and ask: Should we bring it back a second time? We say don't bring it back another time so as long as you have freed yourself from it seeking the face of Allah thus don't return in regards to that which you have left for Allah"

Those who listen to the Word [good advice La ilaha ill-Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah) and Islamic Monotheism, etc.] and follow the best thereof (i.e. worship Allah Alone, repent to Him and avoid Taghut, etc.) those are (the ones) whom Allah has guided and those are men of understanding (like Zaid bin 'Amr bin Nufail, Salman Al-Farisi and Abu Dhar Al-Ghifari). Problem with the weather?

Shaikh Bakr Abu Zaid rahimahullah said:
“Hot day (يوم حار) [See: Daa wa Dawaa pg. 233 and Musnad Imam Ahmad (6/410)]

Ibn ul-Qayyim rahimahullah said in his research about the mistakes of the tongue in Dawaa wa Dawaa:

وقد كان السلف يحاسب أحدهم نفسه في قوله : يوم حار ، ويوم بارد

“The Salaf used to take one another to account for their saying: a hot day and a cold day”

It has become from the norm of the people to follow the changes in the weather and its temperature: heat and cold. How many is their terminology in that and their following of it: complaining and paining because of the intense heat and the intense cold. A person desires for winter in the summer and when the winter comes he detests it. This is because he is not pleased in any condition. Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he.

It is appropriate for a Muslim to avoid following the likes of this and taking it as a discussion in the sittings.

In the Musnad of Imam Ahmad from Khawlah radiallahu anha that the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam said:

ابن آدم إن أصابه البرد قال : حس ، وإن أصابه الحر قال : حس

“The son of Adam, if cold afflicts him he says Hass [a statement said when one is in pain like ouch] and if heat afflicts him he says: Hass [a statement said when one is in pain like ouch]
[Silsilatus-Saheeha no. 1578]
[Taken from Mu’jim al-Manaahi al-Lafdhiyyah (1/128)]

Subhanallah! This is our custom today as the Shaikh described. We should take heed of the Shaikh’s advice and not indulge in the discussion of the weather or complain about it, especially since we have a lot changes in weather in Canada.

May Allah reward Shaikh Bakr for his beneficial work rahimahullah.

The Evil Eye

I asked Ash-Shaykh Yahya al-Hajooree, may Allah preserve him, the following question when I went to visit him during my trip for umrah,

The Question: "How does a person know if he was afflicted with the evil eye?"

The Answer :"He can possibly feel a change in his living conditions for example he becomes sick, whereas it is from one condition to another such as if he wasn't ill then became ill or if he were to have a good eye sight then got afflicted with bad vision or if he were to have a good memory then got afflicted with bad memory, this is a sign that he got afflicted by something, whereas if it is due to the cause of the evil eye and its likes then let him treat it with the dhikr of Allah"

Abu Fajr Abdul-Fattah

Transcribed from the following audio on min 10:10.
http://www.sh-yahia.net/nwe_sounds/asila/1436-010.mp3

The scholars mention usually the women and children are victims to the evil eye and to magic,

Allah describes the evil eye of the Kufaar towards The Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam,

( وَإِن يَكَادُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَارِهِمْ

"And verily, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes through hatredness when they hear the Reminder (the Qur'an)"
But with the shield of the dhikr of Allah it will not harm the person inshaaa Allah
