This veiled woman is Dr. Alaa Al-Najjar, who was devastated by the loss of her nine children, while her husband remains in critical condition, along with their only surviving son, Adam.

She is a pediatrician who, throughout the months of war, treated the children of #Gaza. But when fate struck her own children in the massacre of genocide, she had no chance even to treat them — not even to bid them farewell, as most of their bodies were burned.

This doctor is a daughter of the Qur’an — she memorizes it, as did some of her children. All of them were on the path of memorizing the Holy Qur’an. A devout woman who has known Allah through both countless blessings and unimaginable trials.

She does not wish to speak — the shock is beyond words. Since the tragedy, her only conversation has been with her Lord: to strengthen her heart, to heal her husband, and to save her only surviving son.

We ask Allah to make this book a means of cultivating an atmosphere of worship and dhikr in our homes and communities in the blessed month of Dhul Ḥijjah.

Allah knows that we long to visit His House, but we cannot always do so. Thus, from His mercy, He gave us these days as a beautiful replacement.

The Best Dhikr

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The best dhikr is لَا إِلٰهَ إِلاَّ اللّٰهُ.” (Nasā’ī)

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The best of what I and the Prophets before me have said is,
لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهُ ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ ، وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ.” (Muwaṭṭa’)

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these 10 days (the first 10 days of Dhul Ḥijjah).” The (Ṣaḥābah radiy Allāhu ʿanhum) asked: “Not even jihād in the path of Allah?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied: “Not even jihād in the path of Allah, unless a man goes out himself for jihād taking his wealth with him and does not return with anything from it.” (Tirmidhī)
