[] the forest fires in Kalimantan aren't merely an environmental issue; they're a humanitarian crisis that threatens biodiversity, wildlife, and the lives of the people who call the region home. forests that once served as habitats for countless species are being destroyed, leaving animals displaced and struggling to survive. meanwhile, the haze caused by these fires poses serious health risks to local communities, disrupts education, and affects daily activities. although El Niño and prolonged drought can worsen the situation, they shouldn't be used to overlook the human activities, negligence, and possible failures of oversight that contribute to these disasters. the burning of peatlands makes the situation even more concerning, as fires can spread underground and remain difficult to extinguish. this is why stronger law enforcement, transparent investigations, effective prevention, and sustainable land management are essential. Environmental regulations, including Indonesia’s Law No. 32 of 2009 on Environmental Protection and Management, must be enforced consistently, without allowing powerful interests to escape accountability. the government must take responsibility not only by responding to fires but also by preventing them, protecting vulnerable communities, and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable through a fair legal process. the suffering of Kalimantan’s people and wildlife must not be ignored, and public attention must not fade while the crisis continues. protecting Kalimantan means protecting its forests, its biodiversity, its people, and the future of generations to come. #AllEyesOnKalimantan
