A postdoctoral position is available at Dr. Shirin Ghods’s laboratory.
Dr. Ghods’s lab is focused on uncovering the pathogenesis of oral pathogens, with a particular emphasis on Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) and its interactions with the host. We aim to understand the molecular mechanisms driving Pg’s pathogenesis, especially at the transcriptomic and metabolomic levels. Our research examines the virulence factors of Pg, the environmental stressors that regulate its behavior, and how these elements contribute to disease progression.
Utilizing a systems-based, interdisciplinary approach, we investigate the interactions between B vitamins, Pg, and other bacteria involved in periodontitis, aiming to uncover how these vitamins influence bacterial virulence and modulate host immune responses. Additionally, our work explores the molecular links between periodontitis and systemic diseases, which is essential for advancing the understanding of periodontal disease and its broader health implications.
The insights gained from this research will potentially lead to novel therapeutic strategies for managing periodontal disease and its associated systemic conditions.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct independent research as outlined in the project.
• Collaborate with team members on ongoing projects, sharing ideas and expertise.
• Design and execute experiments, collect and analyze data, and interpret results.
• Contribute to the development of new research methodologies and techniques.
• Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at conferences and seminars.
• Mentor and supervise graduate and undergraduate students.
Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in molecular biology, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated track record of scientific productivity, as evidenced by publications in internally known peer-reviewed journals.
• Proficiency in data analysis and statistical methods.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
Application Process:
To apply for this position, submit a complete CV to: shirin.ghods@louisville.edu
