During an interview on Al Mayadeen's The Grand Standoff: Iran and the World, former CIA analyst Larry Johnson said that Yemen holds several advantages in the war, arguing that Yemeni forces are "fighting for their country, land, and people," while Saudi-backed forces lack the same national identity and cohesion.

Johnson also pointed to the shortcomings in the recent PLC (Presidency Leadership Council) offensive, including announcing the operation in advance and carrying out airstrikes without proper close-air support coordination.

He argued that the YAF has demonstrated a more sophisticated level of military competence, and rejected Western propaganda that the movement simply takes orders from Iran, saying it has its own values, motives, and decision-making while viewing Iran as a friend.
