In 2015, liberals rallied here cheerleading Western intervention in Syria. Kurdish women fighting ISIS were fetishised on liberal front pages, framed as defending Western values.

Today, Kobani faces the same threat, from the same fighters — ISIS, rebranded. But now Western imperialism is on the Jihadis' side and the Kurds are no longer useful victims, no longer defenders of “our values.”

The silence of liberal media isn’t a failure of journalism but proof of its alignment with Western imperialism.

And as for Rojava, it is another tragedy of the old adage:

there is one thing more dangerous than being an enemy of imperialism —
being its friend.
