1. The period after prelims brings a feeling of anxiety for all the aspirants. Those who are sure of writing Main exam this year are anxious about the next phase, optional, answer writing etc and those who are not sure about clearing Prelims cutoff are anxious about their approach for CSE 2027. This period of anxiety and confusion eats away crucial period of 4-6 weeks of preparation, breaks your momentum and impacts your confidence.

In order to avoid the same, you may keep the following points in mind.

1. Keep reading your Current Affairs - if you are writing Mains this year or not, it is going to be always useful, either for this year Mains or next years Prelims. Whereas a break in it, will lower down your confidence in future and the work load will get piled up.

2. Start building the habit of Mains answer writing. I know there is a lot of friction before we get into answer writing. We always wait out preparation to be perfect before writing our “perfect answers”. Trust me there is no such thing as perfect preparation or perfect answers. So just start doing it. IF YOU WANT TO BE GOOD AT SOMETHING, FIRST YOU HAVE TO BE BAD AT IT.

3. For OPTIONAL:
Those of you who are writing Mains this year, start filling the gaps in your OPTIONAL preparation. Good marks in optional gets you the top 50-100 rank , rather than just a name lower down in the list.
And those who are missing out in Prelims this year, there is a silver lining as you can re-think about your optional subject. Assess if you are good at it or not and change it if you are not confident about your current optional. Because, if you stick with it and not confident about it, and you crack Prelims next year, trust me, it will bring your Mains score down. Also, this is the only time when you can pick a new subject and prepare it before the next attempt. If you miss it now, you won’t have much time.

Finally , always remember that UPSC preparation is extremely Simple, not Complex. SIMPLE BRINGS SUCCESS , COMPLEX BRINGS CHAOS.
