Travelogue π©πͺGermany #3: Visit to a primary school
βΆοΈ My beautiful friend KΓ€the showed me around her not that beautiful primary school in Berlin:
1οΈβ£ 2οΈβ£ 3οΈβ£ The buildings with front and back yard
4οΈβ£ 5οΈβ£ 6οΈβ£ The classroom where she teaches her 6th-graders
7οΈβ£ 8οΈβ£ 9οΈβ£ The entrance area with project displays (=things to show)
π The teachers' lounge (=comfortable public room)
What's interesting? The school is named, not numbered. It's not a fancy (=beautiful and rich) place but you can feel that pupils are most important people here. They do lots of projects, have extracurricular (=in addition to classes) activities (8) and can campaign (=convince the public) for things they want the school should buy for them (9).
πBerlin, Germany

Travelogue π¬π§UK #5: Advertising
βΆοΈ Advertising is a mirror of society. What are people's needs? What are some big issues? What makes good money? Let's take a look:
πΉLondon's helicopter ambulance doesn't get enough funding (=money), so they turn to (=ask) the public for help.
πΈIslamic Relief is a Muslim charity (=doing good) organisation. There seem to be a lot of Muslims around.
πΉPeople have a soft spot for (=like) dogs, so much so that they are willing to donate (=give money to help) money for dogs.
πΈWhy urge (=tell sb to act) people to vote? What could be the reasons for not voting? Are people just lazy or dissatisfied?
πΉSuicide seems to be a problem. How come? Isn't life really great in Great Britain?
πΈBrits are a humorous bunch (=group of people), you can tell by the puns (=playing with words), although this "muffin" one is a bit low-key (=low level).
πLondon, Bristol / UK

Travelogue π·πΈSerbia #2: Fragile peace
βΆοΈ In Western Europe, Serbia is seen as the bad guy in the 1990s war and to this day (=until now), the country has terrible relations with most of its neighbours. Traditionally close ties (=connections, relations) with Russia and nowadays also China make European integration (=process of uniting Europe) difficult.
In 2006 π²πͺMontenegro broke away (=became independent) from Serbia and in 2008, Muslim Albanian π½π°Kosovo did the same. Serbs are forever angry about losing Kosovo and they say it's because of NATO and the EU.
