Travelogue 🇯🇵 Japan #15: Owl Cafe
▶️ Japan is so full of artificial anything that people have lost sight of nature. But they do like to keep nature in a small, controlled space, just like a bonsai tree (=Japanese miniature tree).
There's a variety of animal cafes, and cat cafes are just for beginners. You may find a puppy (=baby dog) cafe, a bird cafe, a hedgehog (=animal with spikes) cafe, a snake cafe, a penguin cafe and also cafes that house (=keep, are home to) different animals together. And then there are the owl cafes.
Behind each owl there is some information, most importantly if you can cuddle (=touch sb to show you like them) them or not. Visitors are given small pieces of raw fish that they can feed the owls with.

Travelogue 🇹🇷Turkey #1: Visiting a school in Turkey
▶️ It's a paradox (=sth that doesn't fit together). Turkey is so much in the middle of everything but doesn't have a middle itself. Eastern Turkey and Western Turkey are worlds apart (=very different). Here in the East, teachers are sent from the West to civilise the crude (=rough, uncultured) Easterners - mainly local Kurdish and Syrian refugee children.
Many things remind me of Uzbekistan. The patriotism, the hospitality, the whole feel of the place. But there are also differences: Most of teachers smoke during the break, students and teachers speak different languages, and a lot of the school's equipment is donated (=given for free as a help) by the EU to lessen (=reduce) the migration pressure on Europe.
