▶️ Even before the pandemic face masks could be seen on the streets of urban East Asia, maybe as a way to fend off (=defend against) air pollution, hide a recent nose job (=plastic surgery on the nose) or just out of a sense of female vulnerability (=ability to get hurt easily). Corona has made mask-wearing permanent and few people can imagine ever taking them off again in public. Watch this video of a street survey in Korea, not for advice on how to deal with the pandemic but rather as a glimpse (=a short experience to help you understand sth) into a foreign culture.

👍 Algeria was correct. The language is Arabic as you can tell by the sounds like ‘ayn (ع) and ghayn (غ).
👎 Iran was wrong. The language was clearly not a match. Farsi sounds quite different from Arabic. Saudi Arabia was wrong. Yes the language was Arabic but hey – the Saudis are not known for their pop music as they argue that music is generally bad unless it’s religious. Spain seems possible for the guitar but the language would be very different.
