Steiner saw the non-Euclidean geometries of the 19th century, and above all modern Synthetic or Projective Geometry, as significant evidence of a new and free activity of modern thinkers . He called for the further development of Synthetic Geometry to provide the necessary mathematical forms of thought to counterbalance the one-sidedly analytical nature of materialistic science."

"A scientist well known in the modern world, once his thesis has been to some extent accepted, can afford to write-or let others write-in a popular style about work not always easily accessible to his readers . In a science arising out of Anthroposophy, very great care must be taken, because the borderline between it and what might be termed "pseudo-science" may become confused, and false impressions may arise. Anthroposophy is based on clear thinking and not on any vague mysticism or outworn dogma; it is in this sense that it is modern.
Reductionism is a necessary phase in science, but only a phase; it is a way of thinking which deals efficiently with what has already been created, especially in the field of inanimate nature. Today, however, research into the living organism reveals problems, such as "organisation" in biology-and in other spheres of life-calling forth questions concerning the creative process and the origin of life. Where are the boundaries of Science today? With this question, science is at a threshold.
Rudolf Steiner points the way across this threshold, in terms of modern and future ways of thinking. He does not negate materialism, but shows how to transcend it, while preserving the exactness and clarity of thought upon which the purely materialistic way of thinking is based. This, in itself, belongs to the evolution of human consciousness.
It has provided mankind with great power, in the observation of natural phenomena through the microscope and the telescope in the laboratory, the clinic and in the field. Mathematics is the handmaiden of science, but it is an art, and like all arts, it relates to deep truths of existence. It is a mode of expression which is born of sense-free thinking; among its many aspects is geometry and herein lies its kinship with imagination."

"Just as it is when looking back into memories of childhood, so also into our time there shines the light of a Golden Age, a time which was, before mankind had descended into the dust and turmoil of the present materialistic civilisation.
Just as the child in growing up gradually comes out of a dream world to meet the gl4re of everyday ''normality'' , so in the scientific age men throw away poetry and religion and concentrate hard on external, material sides of existence.
This is really as it should be, if all that is left of religion is an empty phrase, depending only on belief. For it is indeed the task of our time to go beyond mere belief and begin to know again . We must regain access to those lost worlds of experience, without losing the hard won footholds of an earthly consciousness. It is an adult, day-waking consciousness which the modern world provides, based as it is on the clear thinking which sustains mechanics and physics.
To turn away from science, however materialistic, seeking consolation and relief only in the beautiful pictures and sayings of the past, is to go to sleep again and will be of little avail. The task is to struggle through, until the pictures and the words come alive again, to be experienced not only as beauty but as truth by the individual. Then it is the individual who knows , and it will not be a question of relying on faith or belief. This will be future science.

"Taking his start from the phenomena. Goethe struggled to grasp the formative principle as such. He reached a certain degree of understanding; what he inaugurated has to be taken further (Dornach 6. IV.1921 ). Rudolf Steiner's conception of the world of formative forces has indeed taken Goethe's steps further, and this must in its turn be developed still further to meet the questions of modern biology.
The etheric or etherea12 world (Aetherwelt)-a realm through which cosmic, formative forces work-has been known since time immemorial in the old instinctive ways of the past. It needs now to become a guiding idea and recognised principle in science. The physical, material body of a living form, which can be studied by means of the physical senses, is permeated by supersensible members, named variously by Eastern teachings.
Rudolf Steiner describes them as the etheric or life-body, the astral body, which is the seat of feeling and sensation, and the ego, or spiritual individuality. Plants are permeated by an etheric world , animals by an ether and an astral body and the human being by both ether body and astral body and also by the individual ego or spirit.
The inhibitions of the materialistic scientist towards ideas of this sort are fully justified, for admittedly, science is based on its analytical and quantitative method of approach to substance, however refined the substance in question may be . The analytical method has led to the concept of the infinitesimal worlds of the atom and its particles, the cell and its minute parts. Every particle of substance, qua substance, is subject in a greater or lesser degree to the law of gravity and other laws of physics.
In fact, however, it is the material body, the so-called physical body, which is subject to the known laws of physics. The corpse lies inert when life and soul and spirit have departed from it. The ether body is subject to laws of an opposite kind, and it is only by virtue of the laws of the ether-body that the astral and ego forces can work into the physical body, for they too are supersensible and not bound to the laws of the material world.

It is not yet a very widely known fact that just as ancient geometry gives the mathematical basis by means of which to conceptualise the laws of space and the laws of classical mechanics, so projective or synthetic geometry provides equally clear conceptual access to their polar counterpart, the laws of a world of processes which permeate and take hold of substance.
Rudolf Steiner called on the scientists and particularly the mathematicians in his audiences to think clearly about the forces working in and through what he called ethereal, or negative space (Gegenraum); he described these forces as being polar opposite to the known mechanical forces. He saw the transition from the analytical aspect of mathematics to that which introduces synthesis, as significant for science in that it provides '' an inner way of thinking which leads towards the reality present in an outer realm of nature.'' It does this in such a way that ''the same inner experience is reached as when one rises from the ordinary grasp of a concept to a spiritual imagination. " At the same time he warns of the danger of taking hold of this realm of mathematics
in "the narrow way in which it is still often understood today" (5 IV.21).

Goethe held back from the abstract and quantitative aspect of mathematics because it was qualities he was seeking. Rudolf Steiner, too, was concerned with qualities and he took this view also; it is as an art that the new mathematical approach to morphology inspires ways of thinking and conceiving which are new.
Just as a long and devoted training-or a genius-gives birth to art, so it is with the transformation of natural science and its further development beyond the present materialistic phase.
Since the time of Descartes, modern physics has continued in the Euclidean tradition and based itself on the concept of the point. It has, as it were, delved into the point and reached the infinitesimal worlds! Now it is time to balance things out and bring to bear the polar concepts, the plane and the peripheral aspect of forms. The task is not to contradict, but to complement the findings of science and to begin to look at all the amazing data provided by modern techniques, in ways that will raise science to other dimensions . Not that the answers will be just round the corner, but perhaps the right questions will be asked."

Paramagnetic materials such as aluminum, oxygen, gadolinium oxide and cupric sulfate are weakly attracted toward the stronger region of the field and lose this behavior once the field is removed. Diamagnetic materials such as water, glass, pyrolytic graphite, bismuth and superconductors are always weakly repelled and tend to move or rotate toward regions where the magnetic field is weaker, regardless of which pole is nearby.

BASIC PRINCIPLES OF FREQUENCY MODULATION” 1944 U.S. WAR DEPARTMENT FILM FM RADIO

"Made during WWII by the War Department, this official training film describes what frequency modulation (FM) is and how to use it in reference to radio communications. It also provides the comparison between FM and AM radio as far as what advantages FM has over AM. Originally restricted, the film was released for public educational use in 1949. It opens with U.S. soldiers playing ping pong while listening to AM radio (:28). When one of the men begins to use an electric razor, the radio gets staticky and one of the men switches the radio to FM so they can still listen to the music clearly (1:02). FM was a major step forward in radio and as guests tuned into a radio programs now they were listening to what the microphone was picking up (1:24). AM radio had its drawbacks in the sense that whenever it was used for communication in the battlefield (2:06) it would pick up static which would mess with the signal. Tank tracks made reception near impossible (2:13) as well as a slew of other war materials and natural occurrences such as thunderstorms (2:25). "Made during WWII by the War Department, this official training film describes what frequency modulation (FM) is and how to use it in reference to radio communications. It also provides the comparison between FM and AM radio as far as what advantages FM has over AM. Originally restricted, the film was released for public educational use in 1949. It opens with U.S. soldiers playing ping pong while listening to AM radio (:28). The limiter is broken down in diagram (18:00) and how it clips off any variations on the positive and negative portions of the wave (18:49). After the variations have been clipped off, the wave ends are squared and this leads to distortion of the signal (24:42). The plate circuit handles this problem by smoothing out any irregularities or sharp corners of the wave (24:49). A simplified diagram of the discriminator follows (25:23). The wave from the discriminator is fed into AF amplifiers and comes out of the speakers in the same way which an AM receiver does (27:57). This film concludes (28:19).

"Manly P. Hall, founder of The Philosophic Research Society, has been called the “Dean” of American Esoteric Studies. Centered on the very first page of his magnum opus, The Secret Teachings of All Ages: An Encyclopedic Outline of Masonic, Hermetic, Qabalistic, Rosicrucian, and Symbolic Philosophy, is an illustration of Babbitt’s atom. In the caption under this illustration he describes Babbitt as a “genius.” This illustration in the center of page one of Hall’s magnum opus, with Babbitt introduced as a genius, indicates that Hall felt that Babbitt’s atom was the “Rosetta Stone” of Hermetic understanding—and the key to the secret teachings of all ages."
Babbitt was reputed to have an expanded threshold of perception of micro-clairvoyant vision through which he could see energy fields on an atomic level and observe molecular dynamics. Writing in the 1850s he discussed left and right brain differences and theorized an “atomic bomb.”

In Charles Leadbeater's Occult Chemistry, the claim is made he clairvoyantly identified "quarks" in the late 1800s. It is a fascinating story, worth telling on its own terms, but the direction it points is the problem. Leadbeater looked into matter, past the threshold of the normal senses, into what Steiner called the subsensible realm, the death oriented polarity. Steiner consistently pushed research outward toward the cosmos and the supersensible realms, the actual source of life energies. The theosophical conceptions of the ether is simply rarefied matter, degree after degree of finer substance. Steiner's ethers are something else entirely, non-spatial formative moulds that give context and shape to substance from outside in. Theosophy's model is rehashed atomism dressed in spiritual vocabulary. That Leadbeater's clairvoyance was sourced from black magic and pederasty, as Gregory Tillett documents in The Elder Brother, makes the orientation all the more troubling. Steiner's Agriculture lectures say it plainly, over and over: orient research in the wrong direction and you corrupt the results.
Steiner saw the atom as a monad mirroring the organization of Earth's etheric layers, much as human blood corpuscles reflect cosmic forces. Atoms are bubbles in the ether, hollow spaces filled with Ahrimanic substance, the source of repulsion and attraction at the physical level. Matter is shattered spirit; matter is congealed light; substance is frozen cosmic process, the last step in creation; substance is the hieroglyphic writing of the universe; substance is cosmic process; the atom is coagulated electricity (but not of the current conception); electricity is decaying light; electricity is light being destroyed in matter; and human thought and the new concept of electricity are one in the same.
Leadbeater's whirling atomic structures, like the materialist picture, may be projections of the nervous system's onto nature resulting in a reductionist view, not a genuine perception of reality. Atomism holds only on the physical plane. Steiner's formative ethers work in the opposite direction entirely, shaping substance from the supersensible periphery, not drilling inward into dead matter.
