The inner optical and infrared component consists of stars, which are dense, collisional objects where magnetization is lost and filamentary plasma hierarchies no longer extend below the stellar scale, even though similar processes give rise to planets. These stars produce the familiar spiral patterns in optical images. At larger radii, rotation curves rely on radio observations that trace plasma gas instead of starlight, since stars become too sparse to use optically. The gas there moves supersonically relative to the stars, which can't be explained by gravity alone because since Galileo, gravitational motion is known to be independent of density, so gas and stars shouldn't display systematically different velocities in a purely gravitational field. The observed discrepancy implies that magnetic confinement acts in addition to gravity, yet standard cosmology largely ignores magnetic fields. Characteristic plasma speeds in the universe follow from dimensionless mass ratios: the electron to proton mass ratio raised to the three quarter power, multiplied by the speed of light, gives an upper speed scale of a little above 1,000 kilometers per second, with the densest galaxy clusters reaching roughly twice that value. A lower characteristic speed equals the electron to proton mass ratio times the speed of light, giving about 100 to 150 kilometers per second, close to the Rydberg speed. These constants constrain plasma behavior across cosmic scales, even though their deeper origin remains unclear.

BIOLOGICAL FIELDS AND MITOGENETIC RADIATION | ALEXANDER GURWITSCH

Gurwitsch's approach to developmental biology broke sharply from the reductionist science of his time. Rather than hunting for individual factors causing each developmental step, he asked a more fundamental question: why does a regular sequence of fundamentally different processes unfold in development at all? This shift in thinking emerged during military service in 1904, when Gurwitsch realized that cataloging pressure differences or chemical reactions didn't truly explain embryogenesis. He pursued a quantitative, statistical analysis of morphogenesis using sea urchin gastrulae, chick optic cups, and onion roots. What he discovered was striking. Even in apparently symmetrical objects, cell divisions on opposite halves didn't distribute equally. Instead, they followed Gaussian or super-Gaussian patterns, suggesting a supra cellular ordering factor at work. In 1912, he introduced the concept of a "field" governing developmental fate. This wasn't mere electromagnetic phenomena. Gurwitsch maintained that a unique biological field existed independent of and above any electromagnetic component, remaining largely theoretical because he lacked experimental techniques to directly test it. His work demonstrated what biology would later recognize as deterministic chaos, where stochastic individual events produce orderly outcomes at the tissue level.

The famous 1923 onion root experiment revealed something remarkable: ultraviolet radiation from one onion root at extremely low intensity could trigger mitosis in another root kept at optical proximity. This mitogenetic radiation, now called biophoton emission, became the experimental cornerstone of his theory. Gurwitsch proposed that chromatin emits this radiation to stimulate and regulate cell mitosis in other cells, essentially serving as both signal and energy source maintaining molecular constellations against entropy. What made this work genuinely strange was that mitogenetic spectral analysis showed narrow emission bands (sometimes just 1 nanometer wide) varying between biological sources, effects magnified dramatically through rhythmic intermittence during radiation, and strict dependence on oxygen and visible light of specific wavelengths. Enzymatic reactions generated these emissions through branching chain reactions involving free radicals and reactive oxygen species. Branching chain theory, developed in the 1920s, explained how these reactions could exponentially amplify energy. Calculations proved that constructive addition of multiple visible light photons occurred naturally, somehow producing ultraviolet photons exceeding single visible photons in energy. Most researchers measuring low level photon emission acknowledge Gurwitsch's priority as discoverer, yet they paradoxically rejected his claim that the emission plays functional roles, attributing it instead to random metabolic errors.

Gurwitsch developed a hierarchical field theory spanning from molecular constellations through cellular relations to whole organism systems, each level unifying toward specific future developmental states. His mature theory held that developmental transitions can't be reduced to molecular factors alone; instead, invariant laws govern how morphological stages succeed one another. This remains underdeveloped in mainstream biology. Fritz Albert Popp later built biophoton research on coherence theory, explaining many peculiar photon emission features from living things. Luc Montagnier, the HIV discoverer, demonstrated that microscopic DNA fragments in dilute solutions produce detectable electromagnetic waves, and when pure water sat nearby without material contact, adding genetic material to the water produced DNA strands matching the original dilute solution's sequence. The electromagnetic waves from the solution shaped living space in the pure water. Michael Lipkind, Gurwitsch's direct student, preserves this distinction between biological field processes and electromagnetic phenomena. Gurwitsch never expanded his theory to encompass the biosphere level despite close ties to Vladimir Vernadsky. This oversight left unfinished work connecting individual organisms to the biosphere's radiant field and ultimately to cosmic radiation, a gap later theorists began filling through cosmic ray and biodiversity cycle studies suggesting organized galactic-scale radiant fields intimately connected to biospheric fields.
