The TAU and the Royal Art

"A driving force which can only be moral, that is the idea of the future; a most important force, with which culture must be inoculated, if it is not to fall back on itself. The mechanical and the moral must interpenetrate each other, because the mechanical is nothing without the moral. Today we stand hard on this frontier. In the future, machines will be driven not only by water and steam but by spiritual force, by spiritual morality. This power is symbolized by the Tau sign and was indeed poetically symbolized by the image of the Holy Grail.”

-Rudolf Steiner, The Temple Legend, The Royal Art in a New Form, Berlin, Lecture 20, January 2, 1906

"What is expressed by the Tau is a driving force which can only be set in motion by the power of selfless love. It will be possible to use this power to drive machines, which will, however, cease to function if egoistical people make use of them. It is perhaps known to you that Keely invented a motor which would only go if he himself were present. He was not deceiving people about this; for he had in him that driving force originating in the soul, which can set machines in motion. A driving force which can only be moral, that is the idea of the future; a most important force, with which culture must be inoculated, if it is not to fall back on itself. The mechanical and the moral must interpenetrate each other, because the mechanical is nothing without the moral. Today we stand hard on this frontier. In the future machines will be driven not only by water and steam, but by spiritual force, by spiritual morality. This power is symbolised by the Tau sign and was indeed poetically symbolised by the image of the Holy Grail. Man is no longer merely dependent on what Nature will freely give him to use; he can shape and transform Nature, he has become the master craftsman of the inanimate. In the same way he will become the master craftsman of what is living."

“One of these great problems will be concerned with finding out how to place the spiritual etheric forces at the service of practical life. I have told you that in this epoch we have to solve the problem of how the radiations from human states of mind are carried over into machines; of how human beings are to be brought into relation with an environment which must become increasingly mechanised. The welding together of human beings with machines will be a great and important problem for the rest of the earth-evolution.

"Human consciousness depends on destructive forces. In our nerve-system we are always in the process of dying. These forces of death will become stronger and stronger, and we shall find that they are related to the forces of electricity and magnetism, and to those at work in machines. A man will be able in a certain sense to guide his intentions and his thoughts into the forces of the machines. Forces in human nature that are still unknown will be discovered – forces which will act upon external electricity and magnetism. That is one problem: the bringing together of human beings with machines, and this is something which will exert ever-increasing influence on the future.”

“ In every living organism Physical, Ethereal, Astral and Spiritual forces are active. In the plant, the threefold Physical and the fourfold Ethereal forces, work from within outwards, the Astral forces work around it, and the Spiritual forces from the starry distance, where the archetypes of the plants are formed”

“The effects of the Etheric Formative Forces are always general ones. Never does an organism come into existence merely through the Ethereal processes, but only when an Astral principle presses its seal upon the Ethereal”

“ The working of the Astral principle is carried into this Physical-Ethereal, as a streaming, moving activity. Manifesting archetypally in a sevenfoldness”

“The Spiritually working principles gather together the form into a specific species and are archetypally arranged according to the 12 principles, revealing themselves cosmically in the Zodiac. It is only through this spiritual element that ‘the plant’ becomes a rose or a sage, ‘the animal’, a lion, and ‘man a definite individuality.”

“In the plant the seed is the carrier, or point of attachment, of the Spiritual forces which form the species. But the seed only unfolds when surrounded by Physical, Ethereal and Astral elements in such a way that these forces can stream freely together.”

Dr. B Lievegoed 1951, The Introduction to ‘The Working of the Planets in the Life Processes in Man and Earth’.

Ernst Marti's perspectives on the ethers and formative forces

When the astral forces stream in through the portals of the stars—or streamed in during creation—they stimulate the ethers and give rise to the formative forces. The ethers, as universal forces, do not build or create form themselves; rather, they dissolve form and free substance from earth-centric forces. These ethers act with a tendency toward the cosmic periphery, where they are sourced from the celestial sphere surrounding the cosmos. Although they surround and flow through all things, ethers cannot create independently, just as substance alone cannot generate form.

The ethers are “clothed” in formative forces, which also come from the periphery but not from the entire cosmic periphery and are distinct from the universal nature of the ethers. These formative forces arise through the stimulation of the ethers by the astral influences streaming from the stars, and they in turn bring forth the concrete forms that manifest in the physical world. Meanwhile, spiritual forces penetrate more deeply into the elemental substances, shaping the very matter of existence.

The totality of these processes is expressed as The Word, the cosmic Word sounding through the stars, where consonants relate to zodiacal star forces (e.g., B to Virgo, M to Aquarius) and vowels correspond to planetary forces (e.g., O to Jupiter, I to Mercury). Eurythmy movement practices are linked to these cosmic correspondences, making visible the dynamic interplay between astral, etheric, formative, and spiritual forces in the shaping of form and substance.

Joel Wendt on technology and elementaries
"... even if real human consciousness can’t be replicated in a machine, there still will be spiritual entities created by our unconscious activity in developing this technology. In Hermetic Science these artificial astral beings are called elementaries. If we want to avoid making them unconsciously, knowledge of Hermetic Science is central. However, it is a Hermetic Science united with a Spiritual Science, that is needed. But where are those realms being studied or taught? In the occult brotherhoods, for sure." - Joel Wendt

What is Solid? A lesson by Daskalos
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jt1F8CMVd1U

Solidity is not an inherent property of objects but exists only relative to the state of consciousness that perceives them. Solidity appears in the physical, etheric, or noetical (psychical) worlds depending on the connection formed between the observer and what is observed. Something considered solid by a human may not be solid to other beings or even to us when we are out of the body.

Solidity is often misunderstood as a permanent quality of objects, whereas it actually depends on the observer’s ability to receive the impression of solidity. In altered states, such as dreaming, solidity may no longer apply, allowing one to pass through objects.

Daskalos was speaking from personal experience as he had the abilities to phase in and out of matter.

Boundaries of Psychical & Noetical Counterparts | Daskalos
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfMDUw3FmLc

The psychical and noetical worlds are realms of being adjacent yet distinct, each with its particular qualities and boundaries that define their nature. The psychical corresponds to the realm of soul and astral phenomena—where images, thoughts, and feelings manifest, while the noetical pertains to higher spiritual realities of pure cognition and direct knowledge of spiritual truths. Each world has its own laws and vibratory conditions that set the limits of interaction between them, influencing the different modes of consciousness and perception accessible within those spheres.

These boundaries are not rigid walls but permeable limits defined by the state of the individual’s consciousness and spiritual development. Progressing from psychical to noetical awareness involves transcending imaginary, emotional affiliations toward an immediate and living apprehension of spiritual realities. Moving within these dimensions requires inner discipline and comprehension of the subtle vibrations and realms encountered. The distinction between these realms clarifies the nature of spiritual experience, outlining how the soul’s journey involves traversing zones of increasing clarity, purity, and directness of knowledge, from the more shadowed astral impressions to the luminous noetical world of consciousness and wisdom. Daskalos, among others makes the claim that there is no physical travel to other "planets" but may only occur through the psychical and noetical.

The nature of "Elementals" | Daskalos
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hR4Wl8ecuWo

Human beings create "elementals", energetic entities or thought-forms, through the activity of the mind using what Daskalos calls the "Mind super-substance." These elementals arise from repeated thoughts, desires, and emotions, taking on an independent existence in the psychical worlds. These creations can be positive or negative, and how they can persist, influencing the person who created them as well as others, sometimes becoming what he terms "human angels" or "human demons" depending on their moral quality and the intent behind their creation.

He emphasizes the responsibility that comes with this creative power, noting that most people produce elementals unconsciously, fueling inner and outer conflicts or harmony in their environment. Conscious self-awareness and purification of thought and emotion are necessary so that individuals can create beneficial elementals that support spiritual evolution, rather than destructive patterns that result in suffering. He states that through discipline, spiritual training, and understanding the laws of the psychical world, one can dissolve harmful elementals and instead contribute positively to the greater web of life and consciousness.

2 Types of "Elementals" | Daskalos
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nndqSpknRNw

Two main classes of elementals are created by human beings, with around 80% of elementals produced today are what he calls "demon elementals" or "human demons," primarily generated unconsciously through emotions, desires, and personal weaknesses. Only around 20% can be classified as "human angels," because most elementals arise from self-centered motives, attachment, and possessiveness.

Every elemental has a form that a clairvoyant can perceive, and it contains energy in direct proportion to the strength of the desire and the thought of the person who created it. Elementals are composed of two fundamental elements: emotion and thought. If an elemental consists predominantly (three-fourths) of desire, emotion, or weakness, it is classified as a "demon" or "human demon." However, if the elemental is primarily formed by pure thought, for example, curiosity and scientific investigation, where 90% is thought and only 1% is the desire to know, it would be closer to a "human angelic" elemental. The classification depends on the degree to which emotion or thought predominates in the composition of the elemental.

Beyond Mechanism and Organicism: The Spectrum of Diverse Intelligence | Michael Levin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEBhlYCxCPw

Michael Levin uses the concept of "diverse intelligence" to question the strict boundaries often drawn between “machine” and “life.” He advocates for seeing agency as a continuum or spectrum, one that goes beyond traditional brain-centered, organicist, and computational viewpoints. Our current inability to recognize unfamiliar forms of mind is compared to the historical limitation of perceiving only a part of the electromagnetic spectrum, which supports the argument that much of what counts as cognition and agency in the world goes unnoticed due to our own perspective. Levin also introduces "SUTI" (search for unconventional terrestrial intelligence), emphasizing that agency, intelligence, and goal-directedness can be found in a broad range of systems: biological, artificial, collective, and patterned processes that surpass algorithmic limits.

Single cells and multicellular collectives, what Levin calls “collective intelligence in anatomical morphospace,” demonstrate that even molecular networks (not just brains) are capable of learning and memory, acting as problem-solving agents in high-dimensional spaces like gene expression and anatomical patterning. Embryogenesis, axolotl limb regeneration, and synthetic “anthrobots” (motile cell collectives with dramatically altered gene expression and novel behaviors) all illustrate how cells and tissues function as error-minimizing, goal-seeking systems. They achieve outcomes with strategies going beyond the abilities of individual components.

These collective intelligences operate via a “multiscale competency architecture,” where higher-level goals guide the actions of lower-level units. Electrical signals, for example, can induce whole organs to form in new locations, with collective “decision-making” by cells either resisting or facilitating these changes. The categories we use, mind, life, and machine, are empirical, historical, and philosophical constructs, and now seem increasingly limited given the rise of chimeric, hybrid, and synthetic forms of intelligence. Levin argues that to fully engage with the coming “Future Garden of Eden,” filled with radically diverse, non-tree-of-life agents, we will need far more sophisticated ethical and conceptual frameworks.

Why Intelligence Isn't Limited To Brains | Michael Levin
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6w5xr8BYV8M

"Professor Michael Levin explores the revolutionary concept of diverse intelligence, demonstrating how cognitive capabilities extend far beyond traditional brain-based intelligence. Drawing from his groundbreaking research, he explains how even simple biological systems like gene regulatory networks exhibit learning, memory, and problem-solving abilities. Levin introduces key concepts like "cognitive light cones" - the scope of goals a system can pursue - and shows how these ideas are transforming our approach to cancer treatment and biological engineering. His insights challenge conventional views of intelligence and agency, with profound implications for both medicine and artificial intelligence development. This deep discussion reveals how understanding intelligence as a spectrum, from molecular networks to human minds, could be crucial for humanity's future technological development. Contains technical discussion of biological systems, cybernetics, and theoretical frameworks for understanding emergent cognition."

Polycomputing and Process Philosophy | Footnotes2Plato dialogue with Tim Jackson

The concept of polycomputing describes biological systems performing multiple functions simultaneously on the same physical substrate extending the traditional understanding of computation from engineered technological devices to living organisms. Living systems don’t simply carry out fixed or pre-determined functions but rather they continually generate entirely new and unforeseen functions that cannot be fully anticipated or computed in advance. This challenges conventional definitions of computation and information processing, emphasizing the organism’s capacity to create novelty through non-statistical judgment. This capacity for intelligent selection goes beyond the survival-centric views common in neo-Darwinian models, revealing the complexity behind biological agency and highlighting the limitations of frameworks like the free energy principle, which focus primarily on prediction and control.

Whitehead’s process philosophy utilizes the concept of Eternal Objects as tools for addressing the tension between individual forms and ongoing processes. Multiple agents or cells each hold distinct perspectives and coarse-grained realities, contributing to a shared relational network sustained by wide-ranging continua that maintain consistent order without contradiction. Classical computational metaphors assume fixed states or static patterns while living systems are characterized by continuous differentiation, emergent novelty, and relational constraints.

Technoelementals | David Spangler

Spangler defines technoelementals as subtle beings that inhabit, align with, or are attracted to human technology and artifacts. All material things possess not only physical but subtle dimensions, which may house living, sentient energy fields shaped by both human intention and the materials’ inherent elemental spirits. Spangler conceptualizes the subtle world as an interconnected ecosystem (a “second ecology”) in which technoelementals, like elementals and nature spirits, possess autonomy, engage in energy exchange, and evolve.

Spangler classifies several types of beings that interact with objects and technology. Technoelementals are subtle beings associated with human-made objects, environments, and especially technology. Unlike traditional elementals found in nature (earth, water, fire, air), technoelementals arise out of or attach themselves to artifacts through the blending of natural elemental energy and human imaginative, intentional, and functional input. Artifactals represent the inherent subtle “life” or energy field of artifacts, created by the fusion of material substance and human thought or purpose. Riders are beings, sometimes not originally linked to the object, attracted by the artifact's energetic environment, curiosity, or the energetic nourishment available. Allies are subtle beings (angels, devas, nature spirits, or others) that choose to partner with or use an artifact as a channel to assist or bless humans. Sacramentals act as evolved spiritual beings (often invoked through deliberate ritual or talismanic intent) that bless or spiritualize an object for a higher purpose. Electro-Elementals dedicate their attention to subtle intelligences associated with electricity and electromagnetic fields, describing them as a distinct form of elemental being arising with the electrification and computerization of the human world.

Instead of rather dominance or avoidance, Spangler suggest engaging relationship and partnership as the healthy approach to working with technoelementals. His methodology focuses on conscious recognition, blessing, and ethical stewardship. Below are some bits of advice from his book on how to work with technoelementals.

- Recognize that all artifacts and technologies are alive in subtle ways, and that treating them with appreciation, respect, and love enhances their energy and beneficial influence. Simple acts of blessing, through intention, touch, or loving attention, strengthen and heal the energy fields of technoelementals, making environments more vibrant and supportive.

- Regular “energy hygiene”, consciously cleansing the energetic fields of spaces, homes, and objects to remove psychic “soot” or stagnant energies that gum up, dim, or disconnect technoelementals. This may be done through visualization, directed intention, use of incense, sound, or rituals of blessing and gratitude.

- Reconnecting to Nature Techniques include energetically linking or bridging the technoelemental field of artifacts or spaces to overlighting nature beings, inviting the blessing of local devas, the elements, or spiritual presences that overlight land, air, or water. Placing technology in a larger natural and spiritual ecology counters the isolation and energetic dimming found in much modern artifact creation.

- One of Spangler’s principal practices is forming "Grail Space": an energetic field of collaborative partnership, honor, and sacredness (modeled after the Grail legend) that invites both natural and technoelemental beings to join in blessing, wholeness, and mutual evolution. The "Touch of Love" exercise involves channeling felt love through the hands into an artifact or space, with the conscious intention of empowering, nourishing, and harmonizing its subtle life.
- Spangler encourages an ethos of custodianship by actively choosing to foster positive, evolutionary, and healing relationships with the technoelemental beings we have summoned into existence through our technologies. Acts of mindful use, appreciation, and spiritual partnership help transmute dormant, anxious, or unhelpful technoelemental patterns into vibrant, connected, and service-oriented subtle energies.

- Dimming and energetic stagnation occur when artifacts are created, used, or disposed of without respect, alignment, or connection to a wider spiritual ecology. Transmutation is fostered by restoring the energetic bridge to nature, holding the artifact in fields of loving intent, and maintaining clear, life-supporting environments.

Beyond Neurons. Nanobrain: the Future of AI | Anirban Bandyopadhyay
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQrvUD7cskE

Bandyopadhyay introduces fractal architecture to replaces traditional linear processing with multidimensional geometric structures, forming the basis for the artificial "nanobrain." This nanobrain is constructed not from neurons, but from time crystals and programmable nanomaterials operating as a network of nested, self-similar fractal patterns and geometric “clocks” assembled in three dimensions. His Geometric Musical Language (GML) assigns fifteen prime numbers to create an alphabet-like system, transforming information into 3D geometric shapes akin to musical expressions, encoding data as distinct phase states rather than binary digits. This enables rapid, massively parallel computation and adaptive decision-making vastly exceeding conventional linear processing. The fractal neural architecture utilizes continued fraction mathematics to model the brain as nested spheres within spheres, with time crystals, systems exhibiting persistent periodic motion via broken continuous time-translation symmetry, functioning as dynamic vibrational structures that process and integrate information across multiple scales. The brain is modeled as twelve components each generating unique time crystal patterns, where consciousness emerges from sustaining multiple distinct time crystal architectures, quantitatively described by the Prime Phase Metric (PPM).

Practical development toward the nanobrain includes innovative hardware platforms such as molecular-scale computing systems using 17 duroquinone molecules with four independently rotatable side chains, enabling one-to-many parallel processing analogous to human brain function. Core to this is programmable organic “brain jelly” that forms artificial neurons, axons, and nuclei from tuneable matter, representing the physical substrate for fractal computing and enabling the creation of soft, autonomous robots capable of sophisticated perception, interaction, and a form of emergent consciousness arising from complex integration within the time crystal matrix. Nanoscale devices such as the world’s tiniest elevator and integrated nanobots add further precision and simultaneous responsiveness at the molecular level. The architecture harnesses prime number geometry and GML, supporting massively distributed computational processes that evolve internal structures, fostering self-learning and memory in a manner mirroring biological adaptation and rewiring. Planned advancements toward 3D molecular spheres comprising up to 1,024 molecules aim to exponentially increase processing capacity, marking a paradigm shift in brain-like computing technologies that function holistically, with units acting both autonomously and synchronously within dynamic fractal systems.
