Milner & Smart provide a novel exploration into the etheric forces that shape existence, focusing on their role in the organization of both material and living forms. High-voltage equipment, including Wimshurst machines and custom-built power sources, enabled experiments where controlled electrical pulses acted upon metal electrodes placed on photographic plates. These setups consistently produced intricate stress patterns, such as striated discs at negative electrodes and branching streamers at positive electrodes. Photographic plates with silver halide grains, glass surfaces coated with fine powders, or plastic plates dusted with photocopy powder revealed these patterns, demonstrating how material boundaries interacted with etheric energy fields. Additional experiments on water droplets and plant leaves registered dynamic energy fields that suggested unseen organizational principles at work.

The text identifies four etheric states—warmth, light, chemical, and life—that evolved sequentially and contribute distinct functions. Warmth ether serves as the foundation of energy and will, infusing the physical world with dynamic power. Light ether allows perception and forms the basis of the sensory and nervous systems, while chemical ether supports material interactions, driving processes such as metabolism and chemical reactions. Observations of water droplets and leaves demonstrated energy fields that changed depending on material composition and environmental conditions, showing that etheric forces actively guide the forms and interactions seen in nature. Opposition forces, crystallize portions of these etheric states into denser, resistant material forms, providing necessary tension for physical evolution to occur alongside spiritual advancement.

Etheric forces directly influence human development and vitality, shaping physical, mental, and spiritual growth. Warmth ether supports willpower and motion, light ether underlies perception and thought, chemical ether sustains metabolic functions, and life ether animates human reproduction and vitality. By capturing structured energy patterns in electrophotography and stress-induced powder techniques, the research validates the existence and active role of these states in shaping both matter and life. Their findings illustrate how etheric forces integrate with observable phenomena, demonstrating their impact on the forms and functions of both organic and inorganic systems.
