Судя по всему, при сбросе подвесных топливных баков их сдуло назад, в итоге один из ПТБ перебил хвостовую балку вертолёта. По другой версии, хвост был потерян в результате попадания ПЗРК.

Любой другой вертолёт, имеющий хвостовой винт, не способен на подобную выживаемость при аналогичных повреждениях.
Борт успешно вернулся домой.
