NKANA MP INTERROGATED.

NKANA Member of Parliament Binwell Mpundu this afternoon endured a four hour long interrogation at the Kitwe District Police Headquarters in a matter involving youths who were found in possession of scrap metal.

This is the second interrogation Mr Mpundu is facing this year with the previous date with the police being back in May.

Copperbelt Province Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba confirmed that the interrogation was related to a matter where some Kitwe youths were allegedly found in possession of illegally obtained scrap metal.

Mr Mpundu initially arrived at the district police headquarters at around 10:00 hours but was told to return at 12:00 hours because of missing documents.

In the afternoon,he was flanked by his lawyer Noel Simwanza, Petauke MP Emmanuel Banda and his Mpika counterpart Robert Kapyanga and Christopher Kang’ombe of Kamfinsa.

Mr Mpundu arrived at the station where he later gave a statement to the police.

MINISTER of Information and Media Chushi Kasanda has labeled individuals such as Socialist Party leader Fred M'membe, Emmanuel Mwamba, Chilufya Tayali, and Raphael Nakachinda as charlatans.

Commenting on a documentary produced by a Zimbabwean journalist, dubbed ‘The Grand Scheme’, in which the four opposition leaders feature, Ms Kasanda said the four should not be allowed to disintegrate the cordial and good bilateral relations Zambia shares with Zimbabwe.

Ms Kasanda who is also Chief Government spokesperson said the appearance and views of Dr M’membe and others in the documentary gives credence to the glaring fact that they would not mind seeing Zambia destabilised in order to achieve their ambitions.

ECL WITHDRAWALS "ACADEMIC" CASE AGAINST THE STATE

BARELY a day after filing a lawsuit against the State seeking to challenge the decision to bar him from going out of the country, former President Edgar Lungu has filed a notice to entirely discontinue the case.

Yesterday, Mr Lungu filed a notice before the Lusaka High Court to commence judicial review proceedings to challenge Government decision to prevent him from traveling outside Zambia.

He sought leave of the Lusaka High Court to commence judicial review proceedings against the state’s decision, arguing that there’s no procedure which requires him to seek clearance from Cabinet Office.

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema will be represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Stanley Kakubo at the 78th Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly which is taking place from today to 26th September in New York.

Mr Kakubo is scheduled to address the General Assembly during the High-level General Debate on Tuesday, 26th September, 2023.

The theme for this year’s General Debate is: “Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals Towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress, and Sustainability For All.”

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also in attendance at the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly meetings will be Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo, and Minister of Community Development and Social Services Doreen Mwamba.
