Tales from the paper mill: At an undisclosed mill in South Carolina the firewater piping entered the space under the papermachine and took a sharp 90 straight up into the ceiling of the basement to the sprinkler heads. The pipe had been there 25 years and had rusted on the inside near a flange. One day that flange weld ruptured and an 8" stream of water shot horizontally across the paper machine. It hit the "wire" (a screen cloth that is 30' wide and several hundred feet long) tension guide system and drove the wire off the drive side of the machine crashing the machine.

This is more of an engineering issue.... why the hell put a pipe elbow directly in line with such an important system?
