Tales from the paper mill: At IP Georgetown the department secretary for the power house was a little of an odd duck. She was nice enough but not quite all there. She was always swearing up and down that she'd make backups of her documents on floppies and the disks wouldn't read. She'd had a stroke a few years earlier and we just figured she was a touch crazy. So she called me to her office one day somewhere on the 7th floor of the power house. She said her laser printer is missing toner in the middle of the page. She printed a page and sure enough there was a wide blank area in the middle of the sheet. She printed another page and I moved the printer a little as I was looking behind it for anything out of place. That page came out with a little jog to the left in that missing toner. Hmmm.... turns out there were some heavy current carrying wires that run under her office floor. It was the magnetic field from them that was messing up the toner on that laser printer. Then I started thinking about her always erased floppies.... and then I started to wonder about that stroke she had years before.
