"Fun" paper mill story I just remembered. Tissue mills are terribly dusty and prone to fires. What do you know they had a fire one day. Melted the cables for the safety fence system. So in a hurry to get the machine running again, they found a shorter path and spliced the cables to get it going again. 6 weeks later when it's time for a field day, they cantilevered the machine to take off the wire (a fabric that has to be changed periodically) and found that these new cables were in teh way. A mechanic had a solution... sawzall. But he didn't tell any one in management and none of the paper crew cared. next thing you know they're trying to run at midnight at can't load the press because it says the door near there isn't closed. We spent the better part of two days chasing gremlins from that sawzall incident.
